Me and my girlfriend were headed up Ogden Canyon in Utah to go snowboarding, and my car wasn't doing well in the snow, so I was on the shoulder pulled over with my hazards on. We tried to get moving again but the car was stuck once I stopped it. So I started digging some snow out with the shovel that was inside my car. My girlfriend was out side the car with me. She stayed behind the car, while I reached in and was grabbing a knife, to cut open a tow rope I had. Then all of a sudden the car got hit by a Jeep Cherokee. My girlfriend outside of the car, had to jump into a pile of snow next to where the car was so she wouldn't get hit, and I'm so glad she did. I was freaked out , my left leg was still hanging out he door, and I'm surprised the door didn't slam completely closed on it because it was getting pushed against the side of the canyon. If there had been a rock or something there other than snow, I would have had major problems now. The back of my head hit the windshield right in front of the passenger seat, and now it's spider webbed. Anyways, the other driver was cited for speeding, and their insurance company payed for my car to be towed. They were totally at fault. All the Jeep needs to look good as new is a hood, fender, headlight, and bumper. That's assuming they have no frame damage, etc. I've never been in an accident before, but I'm under the impression that if it's not "totalled" by the insurance company, I'll be stuck repairing it, and then selling it aftrer it's been in an accident. To me that sounds like getting screwed over... So I think I'm hoping for a total loss.

The quarter is pretty crumpled up, below the window the most, but also above the window. The hatch won't close anymore either. If you look at it from the inside the panels are pushed inward by the metal slightly. If you've got any questions or anything like that, let me know. Drive safe in the snow too.

Repairs have to be more than value of the car, value is probably in the 15k-16k area, damages like that aren't likely to be that much ... unless you also have some structural damage beyond the body panels.
"Good news" (if there is such a thing in this instnace) is even if you have suspect damage on the frame/chassis, they'll likely write if off as need to replace/repair, and that could be quiet expensive, meaning possibly new car?

But at face value ... looks like you may be getting it fixed.

did the other person not have liability? u shouldnt have to be stuck w/ anything, their insurance should pay for the repairs.

I know I won't pay for the repairs, I'm just worried I'll be stuck with a previously wrecked car, which could have problems and annoyances, and won't sell for the same as a car that hasn't been wrecked.

take it to the best body shop in your area.. make sure the do everything there for you car and tell them to do best job they can insurance is going to cover it. the other guys insurance i going to have to cover everything from body repair, paint , mechanical problems caused in the crash. But make sure you take it you a body shop your comfy with using. Don't let their insurance till you where to go. and call them everyday insurance and shop. ask for updates make them know who you are.

in addition to having them get it fixed, ask for an accident adjustment (??) or something of that sort to the price of the vehicle. you'll get an extra $500-1000 or something like that to cover you when you go to sell the car. I doubt it's totaled as well, probably in the $6-8k range? glad you guys are ok...

I would recommend making sure their insurance company provides you with a rental car during what is likely to be a long duration. Body shops tend to work at their own pace. And never accept the 1st settlement amount the insurance co. offers you. The longer you hold out the more you stand to get. I received several thousand dollars more by holding out even though I was anxious to settle. They are also in a hurry to settle because it costs them $ each day a claim is pending. Hope this helps.

That whole quarter section will have to replaced and more than likely have structural dmg on the floor in the rear hatch area. I think it could be totaled out if the estimate has a lot of frame pulling time.

Try and file a diminished value claim with the insurance company.

Remember that the quarter panel where the gas tank is always costs more money to repair than the side without it. I'm going to guess the suspension is damaged by looking at the wheel. There is some sick angle to your rear wheel.
