Default eBay Remote Starter Kit a good idea?

-Don't care about features, I just want to not have to go outside to start my car.
-Is it okay to buy one of those cheap eBay kits that cost like $65?
-My car would be like 15 feet away in my driveway

Like this:

Any Cons to a kit like that?

if you are just looking for remote start there are better ones than the ones on ebay. plus the ones from ebay ususally are some crap or don't include all the peices. In your case its better to get a high quality one such as Viper or Python.. do you just want remotes start with alarm or just remote start?

a remote start is fine, but an alarm probably wouldn't be all that much more, huh?

Ya I have an automatic. (sigh) But anyways, ya I guess I want one with an alarm since I always worry about my system in my car as well. How much does an alarm / starter cost to install usually? I'm imagining a lot.

The link you posted is a POS.

If you want a remote start system that's reliable and instructions won't be written in Chinese, you need to look at DEI systems, those include Python, Viper, Clifford, etc.

You take that crap you linked to on eBay to an installer they're going to charge you an arm and a leg with no guarantee that it'll even work.

How about this one then? It's a Python for only $51

1400XP is a good system, just don't expect to be able to remote start your car from too far. If you live an apartment and your car is within a reasonable distance 500 ft unrestricted a lot less if traveling through walls you will be able to start it. The tC requires a bypass, due to the transponder, for the remote start system so you need to factor at least $75 in for that.

Ebay doesnt make anything.. it is being sold on ebay. There is a brand name on it.. so why not just ask if an Ultra Start RS system is any good and post the link? You would probably get more views that way. I always wonder why people refer to any part as an "ebay [insert part here]". You can buy super good stuff on ebay, you can buy crap. But there is no ebay remote start system. People talk about it like "dont buy and ebay such and such cause it is crap".. so if you bought the very same part from craigslist would it be any better or worse?

Not trying to attack the OP, but I see this sort of talk over and over on the forums.. it makes no sense!

ok.. end rant.

As mentioned, there are much better systems out there.

^x2!!

I buy lots of stuff on eBay but that brand in your original link will get you nowhere. I doubt you can all anyone that will see that particular brand or recommend it for purchase and installation.

Your 2nd eBay link was 100x better. It'll provide the basic remote start functionality. My only quarrel is why not opt for an alarm while you're at it. You might as well have it all knocked out at once, but that's just my $.02, i'm sure you can find more DEI systems on eBay that will accomplish the 2.

Two good systems are the 5701 or 5901 by Viper, both run in the 400 to 500 range installed at a chain store, expect to spend more on relays and stuff like that.

The 5901 has a mile range on it, and a rechargeable remote, I did an install for a Ford with that alarm last week and am working on upgrading my TC from the 5701 to the 5901.

on a funnier note, I have an MT and did an experimental remote start on my car in gear, funny results, lucky I had a few feet in front of my car.

will you be doing the install yourself? if you buy it on ebay and then take it to like a big store, you might end up paying more for the install since a lot of stores package it out.

you should go to your local shops and find out what some of the in store pricing is... my local shop runs winter specials for remote starts starting at 100 bucks installed, and they just go up from there depending on what features you want.

I have a manual and i have an automatic start, just takes a bit more work with bypasses and such.

Viper has lifetime warranty on the brain and 1 yr on the remote, worth it if your local best buy has advanced or master MECP techs....some of their basic techs are solid but if it were me id feel more comfortable w/ more experience

Hey, this is an excellent thread with a lot of info. I was just wondering about the bypass you are talking about. Is it something I need to buy separately? Also, I also just need a really basic starter and I don't need the alarm so if I got the 1400 XP would it cost be a lot more to install a bypass? Thank you.
