the tC is drive-by-wire? If done right, it could work...but most of the time, it sucks..

It works fine. I think like in any car you get used to the clutch and gas pedals and learn to drive smoothly. More than anything, I find the fact that the engine is so quiet makes it difficult to figure out how much gas to give it. I've had my car a month and I don't even think about it or notice it any more. I think I've stalled it twice total. If you're stalling it on a regular basis, it's not the throttle's fault.

I think all cars will eventually have throttle-by-wire. Mazda3s have it as well as others. You might get rid of your tC now, but soon you'll have to get used to it if you want a new car.

yeah smooth here, very sensitive as well.. almost more than my honda's throttle cable.. you might want to have the dealer check out the sensor.. could be bad.. (on the pedal)..

if you keep stalling constantly without learning how the throttle reacts...you probably don't know how to drive a Manual properly...

Get a bit more training before buying a manual...it helps avoid these types of problems...

Drive by wire is a method that includes using servos instead of a throttle cable. Press on the gas, servo connected to the gas pedal calculates, sends the info through the ECU, then the servo on the throttle body spools up...It's all computerized... Call me old fashioned, but I like throttle cables better. Nothing is worse than having your car have a mind of it's own...

hey nothing wrong with taking it back to the dealer and asking them to check it.. because you think there is a lag in the response.. for me with mine.. no lag in the response.. that's why i'm saying for you to take it in and have them check it..

THe throttle doesn't magically move by itself, there is still a cable, and it can still be adjusted.

BTW, even regular cable throttles can have slack in the cable or "lag" and is not considered a big deal. 5 minutes in the dealer done free if you are nice about it.

Now if you gizmo haters hate electronic throttles, you should check out BMW, hahahaha. On top of I-drive, they have a new throttle technology that utilizes no throttle whatsoever! That's right, none! It adjusts intake air by varying it's continuously variable valves to the proper angles. That sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen. And considering that I-drive barely works, you'd think they'd master one technology before moving on to the next?

I don't know what you mean, but I suspect you're wrong. The tC has a sensor attached directly to the accelerator pedal. It senses the position of the accelerator pedal. It also has a servo that attaches directly to the throttle body. It moves the throttle plate based on the signal sent by the position sensor and the ECU. All the signals are sent via wires. There is no mechanical cable.

The infamous "sensor" is in reality a simple potentiometer. These things can go bad, so you *might* have a problem with yours. I've seen the testing procedures in the excerpt from the service manual that I got my hands on - and it's just measuring resistance between two contacts, and if it's out of range - replacing the part...

I may be mistaken then. . . but I havn't seen the tC's system. I have seen some others, and there are visible throttle cables. Either way, there should be a way to adjust the throttle.

i agree 100% ive had no problem stalling and atfter about 1000 miles it is true you get used to it
That is NOT something you should want to get used to sure it works the same way every time not unreliable but the throttle will always be a few seconds behind that is not good enough for me when you figure the problem out, if you do id like to know
as for me i already e-mailed scion and im waiting for a call back
