Its was an STi, and i know what BOV sounds like. This was a POP followed by a blue flame. I have a vid of it..... it doesn't pop or anything but u can hear the blow off valve.

It was real quick i had to pull the camera out... i got a quick clip... dont mind the angles i was driving and shooting.

A friend of mine drove an RX7 and his exhaust shot flames because he said it was due to him running rich. He also noted that he had a Cat-Less exhaust, because if you had a Cat, the fuel can possibly get trapped in the Cat.

you shouldnt be hearing a loud blowoff valve on a wrx (regular or sti) since it uses a airflow meter/maf sensor (just like our tc's). cars with maf sensors need to have the blown off air rerouted back to the intake, or the car will run so rich it will stall (my nissan would stall everytime i shifted above 4000 rpm). rerouting the blowoff will reduce the noise significantly. i assume a turbo tc would suffer from this same problem since it uses a maf (as opposed to a map sensor in hondas).

one way to get around this problem is to run stand alone engine management (emanage, haltec, etc) or a piggy back fuel computer (apexi safc, hks pfc f-con, etc).

i have a hks bov and had to buy a fitting to recirculate it.

ok i have a question for ya.

now i heard with a bypass set up like what you did to prevent your stalling, does that actually get the turbo to spool up abit quicker just because now you dont have another "opening" in the intake stream?

i dunno did i make sense

i dont think having a recirculated blowoff will make any noticable difference in how the turbo spools, because the turbo is driven off exhaust gas not intake air.
