Thanks for looking that up. I'm not trying to argue much either. I guess I am just making the distinction that they seem to be referring to aftermarket as generic parts. That refers to parts that are certified by the Certified Auto Parts Association. Here is a list of what is CAPA certified: Gordon Fender L Scion tC 2005-2006 SCTC05FL1 5380221120 SC1240103
Gordon Fender R Scion tC 2005-2006 SCTC05FR1 5380121120 SC1241103
Gordon Hood Scion tC 2005-2006 SCTC05HD1 5330121040 SC1230103
Jui Li Fender L Scion tC 2005-2006 S0811F100AS 5380221120 SC1240103
Jui Li Fender R Scion tC 2005-2006 S0811F200AS 5380121120 SC1241103
Jui Li Hood Scion tC 2005-2006 S0811H000AS 5330121040 SC1230103
Taiwan Kai Yih Fender L Scion tC 2005-2006 TY-10193AQ-LH 5380221120 SC1240103
Taiwan Kai Yih Fender R Scion tC 2005-2006 TY-10193AQ-RH 5380121120 SC1241103
Taiwan Kai Yih Hood Scion tC 2005-2006 TY-20128AQ 5330121040 SC1230103
Y.C.C. Bumper Cover, Front Scion tC 2005-2006 Y-SCBP401CA 5211921906 SC1000103

I really don't think they would install an Injen CAI and Carbon Fiber Hood and etc because those don't have the CAPA certifications.

Regardless, I will retract my insurance fraud statement.... but the reason they use certified parts is for safety. If that is not the case.... then I need to nearly total my tC and give it a new makeover.

It does not have to have the airbags deployed to be totalled. If that were true, no rear end collision or side impact (unless you have side airbags) would ever be a total since airbags are not supposed to deploy in those types of accidents.

Florida may be different (And what a sucky rule that is!!), but in all the incidents I have seen, you can use whatever parts you want to. They issue you a check for X number of dollars. And if you really push on them, you DONT have to necesarilly fix the car with the money if you dont want to. It is your car, your check, your choice. I have had two wrecks, gotten checks cut and used them for whatever I wanted since I had an old beater and didnt care to fix the minor damage.

And I have known 2 people who have had totalled cars, and KEPT the car plus the check, so it really depends on the insurance company.

Sorry about the tC, and glad everyone was ok. Nice to hear that the guy openly took responsibility for it.

thanks guys n gals for all your sympathies. and davedave for clarifying that i am, in fact, a woman

lol@ thinking this thread was about a race
the tires have less than 1,000 miles on 'em. they look bald cuz my cam was having trouble focusing and cuz i did my best to take off the noise w/ photoshop.
we think the spill is break fluid. stinky!

i'm gonna go visit her ina bit and take some daytime pics. the towtruck lady said it looked like the strut is broken off. she also mentioned that since it's a FWD and the rear is what's messed up, they might not total it. the hatch still opens and closes perfectly. we'll see what happens. she's got almost 60,000 miles on it. i just got it back from getting the rear main seal replaced too. they even fixed the moonroof cuz it wasn't closing properly, for free. i was so happy about that.

if it is totaled, i just bought a used MMW header and injen CAI that i might put up for grabs, depending on what i replace my tC w/. as for the lip kit.. the front was already pretty scratched up along w/ the passenger side; the driver side is clean and the rear.... well...

i'll keep yall posted on what my insurance decides and if i can pull off some "personal items" before they take her away. IF they take her away.

thanks again everyone!! SL FTW

I highly doubt that your car would be totalled. We just had one in by my work this week that a bodyman was putting a 1/4 on it. It looks to be about the same amount of damage as this but yours does have rear suspension damage but I still highly doubt it. They go by the vehicles value and a certain percentage of that. Normally between 70 and 80%. ( I believe.) I totalled an 06' TC and I do believe the insurance company put a value of the car at 17,800 which came out to be about 1000 less then what I paid for it. I was amazed at the resale value.

Gotcha. I guess I can see tread in other shots, but I know what you're saying about being able to focus on things that are at different distances within the same shot.

I guess in photoshop, noise = treads...haha

Back OT, if you end up getting it fixed, I hope it comes out OK. Again, GL.

That sucks! (I followed the link from the NST pulley group buy). My car's actually in the shop as well for an accident...been there for a month already, and I'm probably not getting it back 'til next week or the following week. Drunk driver T-boned me, airbags went off, and spun the car completely around. Long story short, there's about 13K worth of damage, and it's not totaled out, thankfully. B-Pillar's bent in, door panel and seat need to be replaced, rear wheel needs to be replaced...but he JUST missed the frame.

Thankfully no one got hurt in your accident.

thanks again everyone. i'm glad no one was hurt too.

and zero zero OMG they didn't total your car w/ that much damage???? did you come out ok????

my car's KBB values at around $10K so we'll see what happens; still haven't heard anything from the insurance or body shop.

here's a few more pics to give you an idea of the damage.

here's a tire thread shot, hehehe

dunno much about suspension, maybe you car guys can tell me what i'm lookin at

i'm guessin this is/was the axel:

this makes me thinks it's actually pretty bad, or is daylight coming through around the hatch insignificant?:

OH! and i almost forgot to mention....

THE GUY WHO HIT MY PARKED CAR IS NOT CLAIMING LIABILITY!!!!!!

i'm pretty beside myself about that.
he's blaming his CAR for the accident. saying that he shouldn't have to pay anything because his pedal got stuck giimmelub is about to sue a b:tch!!! he indicated that it was a preexisting condition so he shouldn't have been driving it in the 1st place, if that's the case. and i bet you MONEY he's STILL driving it!!

me=

btw my rental is a slightly more ballsy pontiac grand prix (weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!)

I work in a collision shop and can tell you the way we decide if a car is totaled is one of two ways.

1) if the damage is so extensive that the core of the car will not be able to return to pre-incident conditions.

2) Every car has a calculated insurance value, (similar to kelly blue book) and if the total repair cost exceeds around 70% of that value (different threshholds with different insurance companies) then it is also considered totaled.

The only people who can tell you for sure is your body shop or insurance adjuster. Good luck with everything and I hope this helps.

I'm a little banged up, but thanks for askin'! I was worried that they'd total it out, and in fact my first text message was from the hospital to my buddy who has an RS3...something like "Dude, there's now one less RS2 on the road...".

I don't wanna jack your thread, so if you wanna see pics, they're posted here - https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...sc&&start=1020 - doesn't look nearly as bad as yours!

The story is on Pg. 51...

Yours looks pretty banged up! I hope everything turns out with it. I think it's BS that the guy's trying to get out of paying for it...get your lawyer after 'im!!!
