Exploding sun/moon roof!!!????
when i was researching scions before i bought mine i found that some people reported that their moon and sun roof "exploded" while driving. i am assuming that this may be from the immense pressure exerted on the roof of a car at high speeds. has anyone else heard of this? ill look for a link to post.

well, that is from 2005, if it was really a widespread problem, they would have made a massive recall. there was the one for the wind deflector.
but here i am 3 years and 50 thousand miles later, my tc hasn't explorded its sun roof. my friend has over 60 thousand on his, and he autocrosses alot, still no exploding roof. looks like it was just one freak incident if it really happened.

There were a FEW reported incidences of them a while back. (1 1/2 years ago.) I haven't heard anything for quite a while. Depending on where you live, and if you decide to tint (or not) the glass roof, it might happen.
The 'Wind Deflector' laminate was more a safety concern than an actual problem/recall. 'o6 tCs and up have the laminate already installed at the factory.

Yeah, it happened to me. Here's the link to my thread (w/ pics):

Sunroof closed and windows up. Nothing could've hit it. I have an '05, btw. Since it's been replaced, the sunroof has been okay, but it recently has been making weird creaking noises again. I still don't feel confident driving with the shade open when I have someone else in the car.

I remember some folks mentioned a few reasons why this can happen. The rail is no longer aligned properly and can be due to dirt or build. Something worth noting, it's not suggested that the whole roof be open at over 50MPH (not 100% sure on that). I think it's written in the owner's manual.
