Default Extended Warranty cost after purchase???

Anyone know the true cost of purchasing the extended warranty after purchasing the car. The finance lady I dealt with was kind of butt hurt about me not wanting to purchase the extended warranty and she wouldn't say how much it would cost after the purchase. Thanks

My dealer told me that it would cost the same if I purchased the extended warranty later. He also said that I would be able to finance it seperatly at 0% financing later so it would actually be cheaper to wait to buy the extended warranty.

Woah. I was told that there was basically a $500 difference if I purchased it later. I asked another finance guy the same question and he gave me the same answer. Instead of paying like 850 it would be 1300something. I was gonna wait on it, but I figured that I would never get around to actually getting the warranty, so I went ahead and added it.

Interesting differences in cost. I'm not sure how long I am going to keep this car so I figured that I would wait on the warranty and save some $$$ now. I knew the finance lady at my dealership did not want to tell me how much it would cost after the purchase so I figured either there was little or no difference. Thanks for the info. and more is also welcome.

Hmm. I hope these honest sellers of these fantastic cars are not lowering themselves to lying in order to make a sale. Could that happen? Mmm yeah possibly.

That might depend on whether the dealer is offering a Toyota Financial Services extended warranty. I think it's the same price any time the original warranty is in place with the TFS warranty--not sure, but I think so. I called and asked TFS that specific question, if I recall. But at least one dealership around here is offering another extended warranty, one that offers you some kind of refund if you don't make any claims on it--I don't think that's a TFS product, but I'm not sure.

Bottom line is don't buy the extended warranty. Put the money in accessories.

Accessories are cool, until your tranny blows and it costs big $$$ to fix it. The way I look at it is this is a new car where some flaws may surface later on. I think 900 bucks is realitively cheap insurance for an investment like this, if you plan to keep it for a long time. I had a tranny go out on my Acura and thankfully it was covered by the warranty, saved me a few grand. Isn't the extended warranty coverage up to 100K?

The extended warranty you guys got, is it the Platinum coverage offered through Toyota Financial Services?

At my dealership, it costs about $1900 purchased with the car and is only 5 year / 60,000 bumper to bumper.

I had read elsewhere on the forum that there is a plan for $800 but can somebody give me the specifics?

Is it Toyota or dealership offer?

I have been using this link as the cost basis of the warranties.

You do realize the tranny is covered for 5/60k right? So the most your picking up is 2 years coverage for over a grand. For someone to rebuild a trans might cost a little over a grand. It cost $1600 on my firebird, and thats a much beefier tranny. The odds you ever ever spend as much in the repairs as you spent on the warranty is small. The only real way to make up the money on the warranty is if your engine died, and even then if it did, I doubt it would just up and die between the 5th and 7th year.

Default Extended Warranty

If you purchase extended warranty, be sure it is from the manufacturer, Toyota or Scion. Many of these aftermarket companies are a fly by night and they go out of business in droves, leaving you high and dry. I've been in auto repair over 20 years so this is not just my opinion. If the price sounds out of reason contact Scion directly, they will sell it to you.

I am not trying to persaude anyone to get an extended warranty or not get it, that's up to you. However, I have heard that if you get the warranty and you never file a claim against that warranty during it's lifetime, you can get the cost of the warranty refunded to you. I don't know the details, confirm with your warranty sales person.

Additionally, having a transferable extended warranty definitely helps when you want to sell your vehicle and it still has warranty left. It's just another factor to set your vehicle apart from other vehicles with the same age/mileage.

to each their own,
