Default EXTREME Dilemma... Extreme solution?

Hi everybody. Okay, so this might be kind of strange to post up here but I thought "What do I have to lose?"

I live near the Pittsburgh area and have a vacation planned for the second week of July (8-16). I am driving down to North Carolina to meet up with some family and friends for a week at the beach. Sounds good, right? Yep- been looking forward to it all year.

Anyway, it turns out that my sister and her roommate are now supposed to ride with my girlfriend and I (they had other arrangements which got changed). I have no problem with all four of us going together - they're both ultra-cool so we should have a blast during the 10+ hour drive- but I am supposed to take my tC. Do you think four people's luggage and supplies for seven days at the beach is going to easily fit in my trunk? Yeah- no way on that one. There really is no other vehicle at our disposal to use since my girlfriend drives a two-seater pick-up. Truth is, we really need something with a bit more cargo room to get us all down there and there's no way we can afford to rent something bigger. We can barely afford the trip, but we're going anyway! None of us going knows anyone who can lend us a bigger ride, either. .

So we've been tossing around all sorts of ideas and suddenly someone cracked that I oughta find an xB owner on here who might be willing to swap rides for a week and take an xB down south. They'd get to cruise in my SW tC and I'd get to run the xB for a bit- sort of a chance to "see how the other side lives." The total round trip would be about 1700 miles. Do you think someone would want to do that? Do you think it's a good/bad idea? Can you come up with any OTHER ideas as to what we should do? I mean, I don't just want some idiot to say yes and then total my car, you know? Then again, if I can find someone responsible....

I'm open to ideas... Help a brother out here...

I don't think anyone would be willing to do that, and if they were it would be a disaster waiting to happen, in my opinion.

Take the two-seater pickup, and throw the luggage and two new passengers in the back, tie em all down, and youre good to go.

Ya... ok idea on paper, but bad in practice.

The tC has 60/40 folding rear seats.... fold the smaller one down, and stack things up and MAKE it fit. Have your sister and her room-mate sit next to each other.

Also, don't use suitcases or anything bulky. Duffel bags will work loads better in your situation, or even those clear plastic "bed in a bag" bags.

Get rid of the privacy screen (don't know the right name for it) in the trunk... you know, that thing that connects to the headrest posts and covers your from outside eyes.

That, or go unplug a wire deep in your engine bay, go to toyota, claim something's broken, and tell them to give you a loaner car to use... lol. Maybe ask for a Camry or Sienna or even a 4Runner.

Few suggestions...

Find out the address that your staying in and overnight your luggage via UPS, FedEx, etc.
Just carry the essentials in the tC

Install a Yakima rack and use the Rack Baskets or Cargo Box.

Is your sister and her roommate hot?
Post a pic, if they're hot I'd drive them

...Entice a friend with another car to go.

Don't go, you can't really afford it. U-haul is a good option... I would just rent a vehicle for 1 week.... that can't cost more than 300 I think....

lose the cover for the trunk like mentioned, pack what u need (i.e u really only need one pair of jeans, lets be honest) in bags u can crush, put fragile items in small bag to carry on laps, and u can use a bag as a middle arm rest in the middle also. it can be done. i did 3 people and a puppy to oklahoma from chicago. ask a mom to pack, they can make anything fit anywhere. i had all my college stuff for my apt. packed in a civic hatch from nyc to near chicago. MOMS ARE AWESOME!

i think you could make it fit. just back it in carefully. you will prolly be close to the tC's load limit though, of what 800lbs?

and personally i wouldnt want to drive ten hours in a tc, let alone in the back of a tC. i feel bad for your passengers!

and hopefully it isnt two warm. tC A/C + 3 passnegers? not gonna work too well.

Seriously, I'm not too sure that the tc is much more comfortable than a honda, esp. in the back... I would throw a fluffy blanket back there... after awhile without a blanket it could hurt the tail bone.

FedEX is a great idea. You could even pack what you need for the first few days and save some $$ by using express saver shipping.
