Default Flint mica and immobilizer question

Is flint mica just a dark grey or is it a metallic grey or what is it?

Will the TC have a engine immobilizer?

Hey, the guy driving this flint mica must be under 5' 5" or else his head would be sticking out the moon roof!

The Toyota RAV4 also comes in Flint Mica, so if your local dealer has one of those, you can see the color in person. It is a sweet color, much nicer than Phantom Grey, if you ask me, which I'm sure that you would have.

Does the engine immobilizer prevent hotwiring? People can still tow your car but they can not hotwire it?

There is a small transmitter in your car key. When you start your car it dectects the transmitter. So, unless you have a key with the built in transmitter you cannot start the car. This prevents people from being able to steal your car from hot wiring it and with duplicate keys.
If you have seen Gone in 60 seconds, the Mercedes keys that almost get them busted have the engine immobilizer chip.

IMO, an engine immobilizer is more effective then an alarm system.

Neato...but I don't think that would work for me...I lose my keys too often(and then find them weeks later). I depend on duplicates.

Well, when I bought my 2003 Civic EX, they gave me 2 set of car keys and a valet key. That is 3 keys you can use to start your car. Also why would you need more than 2 sets of keys since it is keyless entry and they give you 2 keyless entry remotes.

You can get Toyota to make you a new copy. This is basicly how they got the Mercedes keys in Gone in 60 seconds, they had some one on the inside order them from Mercedes.

The third was probably a valet key, it does not open the glove box and the trunk.[/quote]

maybe you should get one of those keyfinders like they had in Along Came Polly!

on a more serious note,
has anyone heard of engine immobolizers failing? if so, how easily? i'd feel much more secure since i'm planning on not getting ripped off with the stock alarm (which is normally very easily bypassed) and saving up over time for an aftermarket one.

I am sure it is possible to bypass it some how. But how many people are going to go through all that trouble to steal a $17k car when that same level of effort can get you an $80k Mercedes or BMW.

So if the tC has an immobilizer, that means that i CAN'T have a Remote Start Alarm installed :?: :?: :?: :?:

That would definitely suck, because i want the remote start!!!!!

you can... BUT, the way my cousin and the alarm guy got the car to have remote start was... they put the extra key with the transponder chip next to the immobilizer in the steering wheel thingy. doing this, the car(auto) will start up with the remote start but once you step on the brake, without having your other key or any key shaped like the original in the ignition, the car will shut off. that was the only way they could do it... kinda risky dont ya think?
