Default Front Engine Rattle?

So I've been getting this weird rattle lately, it sounds like its coming from the engine area more on the passenger side of things. It sounds like a loose bolt or something is on something metal and you can only hear it when I'm idling or when I'm going in the low range of first gear, after I pick up speed it goes away.

It seems to be consistent, not there one time and here another, always there and always the same noise. It sounds like it is coming from where the heat shield is and I'm jacking it up now to do a thorough check to make sure there isn't a loose bolt or something else just laying around.

Any other suggestions/fixes would be much appreciated.

ugh.. I hate to say it.. I had the same rattle.. Turned out that my water pump was going bad and making a metallic jiggling screechy noise.. I don't know if thats the same. But you could only hear it when I was idling or at low speeds.. so.. eh.. if you water pump wheel isn't tight.. it could be the same problem..

Indeed that was what the problem was, just thought I'd post an update. Found dried coolant on my water pump and on the inside of my hood/engine bay, took it in and it was indeed the water pump. <3 warranty

i seem to be having the same problem. although i'm not sure if it's the same sound that you had. i have something buzzing in my engine that only occurs during shifts, and during low-mid rpms. i already put rubber on my intake so it does not rattle at all. my brother stuck his head out of both windows while i was driving (driver side was a bit awkward) and says it sounds like it's coming from the passenger side of the engine bay. PLEASE help me out on this it's extremely loud, and it makes my car sound like poop!!

unfortunately i have an '06 meaning no warranty here!! plus i have bolt-ons and we all know how dealerships treat people with aftermarket parts...

i will try checking if it's the water pump as others have stated. but in my case it does not happen at idle or at a consistent speed, only during acceleration through low-mid rpms and during shifts it rattles really loud. it's so annoying and embarrassing!!

^^just remember if they claim bolt ons are the problem they HAVE to prove that. and you should have a 5 year powertrain warranty from the factory so you should still be fine.

I recently started hearing a rattling as well, but only when im in drive with the brake all the way down. not in park at all. can this be the water pump like most of you? my boyfriend just adjusted my CAI so the CEL won't come on anymore, but the sound seems to be coming from engine. any suggestions?

I really can't tell.. I just went out to try and hear it, and it didn't even rattle. I think I have to be driving for a while before it starts.

darn i have a loose bolt kind of noise too from my passenger side engine bay but i figured it was a loose parking light bulb or something that fell in there :/ its only when im in drive and stopped somewhere, soo when i have the brake all the way down , as soon as i put in neutral i cant hear it anymore, i have an 07 with 45,000 miles

That almost sounds like it's a loose bolt on the exhaust near one of the flanges. My buddy replaced his mid-pipe and put everything on tight and a few days later, one fell out completely! Also check your donut gaskets.
