Default Got some overspray, easiest way to remove? *FIXED*

At my work they are painting.
I work in a LARGE gas plant and they tried thier best to tell everyone to move.
Well i work in the smallet building and they didnt tell us to move our cars.

I got a lite covering of white overspray. Nothing to major and im not really that upset about it. I would just like to know what would be the best and easiest way to remove it?

I was thinking Meguiars Clay bar and then some Meguairs wax when thats done.

About how long do I wait between claying and waxing?

Thanks

Gold class wax $11.99

Clay bar kit $16.99

Total : $28.98 + tax

Actually you could just get the clay bar kit (comes with cleaner wax).....

compound can also be used but i belive it will take a bit longer but for like little paint spots (overspray) clay will be fine.... scratches you will use compound cause it becomes sort of a filler good luck with whatever you use

hehe don't worry I remember when someone first told me to use a clay bar on my car I was like "wth...." But it actually works reallllly good, it just takes some muscle and some patience =)
I dont know that a clay bar is so much for scratches but its more to get a smooth finish. Like, rub your hand along the clean painted surface of your car and if you feel any gritty residue then it needs to be clayed-- this will pick up all the stuff in the paint causing it to be gritty and make it nice n smooth, after a coat of wax too So it will feel like it did when it was brand spankin' new ;)

Correct me if I am wrong here.............mind you I have a job as Building Maintenance Tech.............If I got paint over spray on a persons car.........I pay for it to be detailed out...........SO why are you haveing to pay for their mistake..........

they have tarps and drop cloths and if they wre unable to find the owner of a car they are responsible to cover said car.............when I paint at work I own the paint till it is dry...........and any damage to anything I am around including cars and people I am to apy to fix.

go get a bid to have it detailed and drop that on the bosses desk..........

Well they have all that but it was a windy day.
I allready tried to talk to them but they just keep telling me what they had a "Painting in Progress" sign out and it was known that they are painting.

Its been about 3 weeks and im just tired of the crap and figure I will just do it my self. Also, they will be painting till almost the end of the year so alot of people have complaned allready.

I hope this week they will have a solution but if not I will just do it myself.

Default Had the exact same thing!

Well not exact...I had a truck in front of me spill a can of paint in its bed and its misted at such a high speed and made marks all over my car. I washed my car asap but it still was all over. I went to one of those coin operated high pressure car washed and put the nozzle within 10 inch's and it came off beautifully. I had to pay attention to get all the car but I cant see a spot since.

Try the high pressure washes....Im sure itll get it right off.

First you should get a wax and grease remover and see what that does. The clay bar removes the residue from you paint surface, creating a smooth surface. After your done claying your car's surface you should polish it and then wax it. Compound will only make it worse, because compund is like wet sanding. If you have grit on your cars surface before you compound it will only put more scratches in your paint. Meguiars has a video on their website telling you all about it.

I know all you claybar people are throwing around your expertise, but the fact of the matter is that the cohesion of paint to the surface is directly related to the type of paint. If they were painting an external surface of a building it means they were 99% more than likely using a laytex or oil based paint.

Luckily this means that the paint is sitting right on the surface of your car, it does have a decent hold on the surface, but take a fingernail to one spot in an unnoticeable area and you will see the ease of removing the spot.

A clay bar is designed to pick up contaminants that are not all that sticky, Paint is sticky. Therefore claybaring it would be like trying to claybar dried gluestick on your car...which isn't exactly a good idea.

Use a high pressure spray as it will provide more than enough pressure to lift the paint from the surface of your car.

FIXED*

Used a clay bar and it took about 90% of it off. Im sure the remainign is my fault for not scrubbing hard enough.

Worked extra nice and easy.

Co worker came out to look at it,his car got some overspray to. and was amazed how well it looked. He touched the paint and said "The paint is so smooth"

Claybar is worth the money. 9/10 cuz you gotta scrub =)

High pressure would be worse on your cars paint than using a clay bar. Best thing to do first is use a "GOOD" wax a grease remover then use the clay bar. Most of the paint should come off with a "GOOD" wax and grease remover. Sikkens M600 Surface Cleaner is the best.
