Got ticketed for wrong reason.

who cares what the ticket states...you were missing your front plate so at the very least you broke that law....just pay 125 which from my experiences is CHEAP for a ticket and move on. there is no point to start an argument with a cop and/or a judge in which your more than likely to lose anyway

Agreed^^ Fight it and just explain that you where told or pulled over for driving without your front plate but was given a ticket for a larger and much worse offense. Simply explain why your plate is missing...or make up a story or something.....and say your more then willing to pay a fix it ticket and state the number like stated above. But also say the cop should have known better and should have written out the right ticket. I have has two cops write down false info and got one thrown out and one reduced. The second time was for writing down that I drive a "dark colored" Toyota Coupe. Which is right in a way....but really he could have seen that it clearly says SCION tC on the rear, registration, and insurance. So why would he write Toyota Coupe? That is all I brought up at my hearing and the judge dropped it. So at least try it. I have always fought my tickets and just hope the judge is in a good mood. I have had many and only one stood their ground....but I was also going 49 over. Whoops...

I believe my first and only ticket said toyota coupe as well. I mean its not really wrong. What did you end up saying?

Don't listen to anyone who tell you not to fight the ticket. They don't have your best interest in mind and would rather the city/county/state get your hard earn cash. Fight the ticket all the way. Worst case, you lose and you pay the fine. Best case, you win and pay nothing. You don't really have anything to lose at this point, but your time.

P.S.-sorry for the semantics. :-P

Well basically the judge sided with me. Agreed that it was not hard to copy info down off of an insurance card and/or registration card. But instead he didn't care to do so. She said he was being lazy. Then she asked what color my car really was and I said Black Sand Pearl...lol not just black. She was like....o ok well am I going to see you here ever again? I was like NO ma'am. And she said ok your free to go I am dropping the ticket and Mr. Cop(she said his name) will learn to copy the correct info down. I was like BOOO YAAA! lol She seemed like she was in a good mood and all the other people before me got theirs reduced or thrown out. So it was luck too I guess.

I had an actual car dealer explain this to me once, but, basically, Scion isn't considered its own brand. On all the legal forms, loans, etc, all Scions are listed as "Toyota Scion tC/xD/xB/xA". This was also why they had trouble getting the xD included in the Cash for Clunkers program. So, when an officer writes down "Toyota coupe", it's really not wrong at all.
P.S.-sorry for the semantics. :-P

LOL Ya he wasn't really wrong. He was right. But the fact was at the time he could have just copied down SCION tC and then BLACK as the color but failed to do so. Oh this was a State cop too. So he was just being lazy or whatever. I fight all my tickets just because you never know. Might as well. But my dad said to fight this one because he should have wrote down the right vehicle. And the judge I am sure doesn't know off hand that legally all Scions are listed as Toyota Scion xB, xD, tC etc. I just stated it was not indeed a Toyota but was a Scion just made by Toyota. Got me outta a stupid ticket that I didn't want.

Also, when he fights it he forces a police officer to attend court rather than be out doing his/her job protecting the rest of us. So yea, be selfish and fight the ticket you earned, you're right...nothing to lose. Selfish. Selfish. Selfish.

Take responsibility for your actions for once, I mean you even admitted in your post that you know the policeman was right. Don't try to weasel out of your responsibility for your actions on ridiculous technicalities.
"Black Sand Pearl" instead of "black" are you insane? You think that the police officers should know all the hundreds of permutations of the auto-manufacturer's color schemes and color names? Seriously? What you're saying is that if the officer had even taken the time to write "black" instead of "dark colored" you would've fought the ticket on that too? That's ludicrous! You're lucky the judge gave you that pass...in my opinon you should've been forced to pay the ticket.
If you didn't want the ticket...try following the rules. Don't just get the ticket and then waste everyone's time by fighting every single ticket that you clearly earned.

I'll end this.
What is the job of a police officer?
To uphold the law.
Is it illegal to drive a Washington State registered vehicle, on Washington State public roads without a front plate?
Yes.
Did you drive your Washington State registered vehicle, on Washington State public roads?
Yes.
Did you break the law?
Yes.
Did the cop reprimand you for breaking the law?
Yes.
Pay the fine and quit crying.
/thread
I would love it if the courts would stop lowering tickets when people try to fight them. Maybe then, people would actually learn how to drive.

1st part of the sentence is correct, 2nd part would be perjury and is a terrible idea. Tell the truth.
You're damn right I'm not on his side. He commited an infraction then admitted to it and is now complaining that he doesn't want to pay for it. Is the ticket potentially written for the wrong thing? Maybe. I believe the cost of a "no front plate" ticket is $125 in WA state anyway, so it's not like he's paying anything extra for the "incorrect" ticket.
Also, when he fights it he forces a police officer to attend court rather than be out doing his/her job protecting the rest of us. So yea, be selfish and fight the ticket you earned, you're right...nothing to lose. Selfish. Selfish. Selfish.
It is obviously your perogative and your ability and right per our system to fight every ticket you receive. I just personally happen to find this disgusting.

I fight every ticket because every ticket I have gotten was wrong in some way or I thought I did not do what the cop said I did. Only once did I fight and I knew I did what I did. With that said....the cop has one overall job to do. Keep crime off the streets. Pulling people over is the least of there worries in the places where I live. But they pull people over for anything and everything. Now with that said...if they are going to pull me over the better have a good reason and they better fill out the ticket correctly. I know 3 cops very well and one is a state cop. I always ask them about how a ticket is filled out and if my ticket was correct and what it meant if I did not know. They always told me what I should do. I do speed often but that is about all I do. I am a safe driver, stop at stop signs, yeild when needed, use my turn signals 100 feet before a turn, etc. So why pull me over for something and then put WRONG info on the ticket. You are a cop...why cant you look at my registration for what type of car and color. Obvisously the judge thought the same. Writing of the ticket is very easy. You simply have to copy all my info down so why would you not copy the cars info down right? Answer me that please? That is why I fought it...also I did not think I was speeding but that was the least of my worries. A 7 over ticket does not bother me. And I knew I could not say I was not speeding and he got the wrong person because I would lose that battle. I didnt say the cop needed to know "black sand pearl" just black. Dark colored could have been green, blue, 100 different greys, and many more. He seen my car and red my insurance card and registration. He was being lazy. I am assuming you are a cop or have cops in your family. I am not saying I hate them or they are bad cops or bad people. Just tell them all to do there job correctly. I have been pulled over many times for something they simply make up on the way to my window. And I have won every one. Nothing wrong with fighting a ticket when you know you were wronged. Plus why spend time pulling people over when kids are doing drugs in every neighborhood there is? Why not drive around catching them. There is way more important ordeals to handle then stopping someone for going 7 over or not having their plate on the front of their car. He simply forgot. I was wrong to say to lie but simply it wasnt there and tell them it wont happen again. It could have fallen off for all they know. Many cops are simply lazy and there are a ton of them by me. And they probably learn when people fight them over their mistakes. I do my job correctly so why shouldnt every one else? Especially a cop. Fight the ticket or dont. Either way you were wrong with out a plate but the cop was also lazy and seems to me he put down the wrong offense. I would at least get that corrected.

I'm not going to argue that I deserved the ticket for not having my front license plate, but remember he wrote down the wrong infraction. Not having registration while operating a vehicle counts as a traffic violation, which equals points on record, which equals raise in insurance premium. Hell no am I going to admit to that!
Cops need to weigh in the severity of the situation, while I was waiting for him to check all my info, a group of souped up 350z sped by going 80+, I guess he felt that me not having my front plates was more of a hazard.
People who put the public safety at risk (if caught) deserve the infraction they receive. A cop incompetent of writting the correct violation of the law, that in itself is a huge problem.

your argument on the first page was that the cop said you didnt sign your registration, not that you didnt have the paper with you....bottom line is wether the ticket is for not signing a piece of paper or for not having a front plate, you BROKE A LAW...plain and simple. Quit crying like a _____ and grow the ____ up and just pay the stupid ticket.

juuuusssst sayin.
Also sayin - People that think cops patrolling for traffic infractions are wasting their time are insane. I've sat in traffic for hours because some a-hole was speeding but swore he had control of his car and ended up hitting a semi truck that then rolled over and killed a family. Your right, catching the teen smoking pot down the block is WAY more important, I'm sorry I know sarcasm sometimes doesn't come across on the internet but that last statement? It was loaded with a hefty dose. Nobody leaves their house in their car intending to speed to work and flip their car killing themselves or some innocent bystander or just snarling up traffic so people like me who don't speed get stuck in traffic and end up being late or just barely making it where I need to be on time. No people think exactly as you seem to be thinking now, like you're invincible and speeding is fine and you own the road, guess what? You don't.
