Default Greddy lightweight catch can retrofit and custom install

Ok, is it normal to take an $80 universal bolt on item and rework it to were the cost of the time, fabrication and parts to make it better cost more than the part itself?

Seems like I have been doing this all my life “More Power” “Upgrade” etc. etc…

I recently bought a lightweight Greddy oil catch can, and I didn’t like the way the recommended mounting method. So $100 dollars later in labor, parts and beer, I have a very clean installed oil catch can in my “Toy xBox”. But does it really matter; does the public really notice the difference? I must be insane do I need an intervention to stop this behavior, fetish?

Anyway for those of you who share this passion of overkill here are some pics of the latest mod I have probably way overdone!

Enjoy,

Ok here is the universal fit kit

the install looks sweet and your engine looks clean, but what purpose does the oil catch can serve?

dude, i feel ya. I am the guy who has to turn every screw head the exact same way. You should see the light switch covers at my house, every screw perfectly straight. At my old house you could open any cabinet in the kitchen, and every screw in every hinge is in the same position. Most people would never even notice, but if you are going to do something its got to be perfect.

It really serves a better purpose on a "boosted" motor for oil blow by... but when I did the head on my 87 Hilux and 72 Celica I noticed light coat of sludge in my intakes and always thought of running a catch can so since this is a new car I said what the hell and installed one. Plus if you ever change a PVC valve it seems like there is always oil dripping from it and the hose is usually coated insde as well so just as a added precaution, also it fills the area that the airbox used to be and overall it looks cool

Definitely looks clean. Nice. I put my Greddy can in a similar spot. I used the Greddy "T" bracket to attach it to the battery tie post. Yours is defiantly a cleaner look though.

Nice and clean Dave!

Ken (NCP31) and I have ours mounted on the bracket that bolts to the tranny, since we are running Injen short rams.

Thanks everyone for their positive posts...

Squirrel,

I used the K&N bracket as a template and bent two seperate brackets and welded a crossbar between them so that the can actually has two mounts off of the tranny and I offset the sensor holder for better clearance between the battery and the catch can...

I just have the bracket painted for now, I will be powder coating it as soon as I finish all the other custom brackets I am making for the rest of my mods :D

Minsk99,

The filter in the hose between the intake and the head... is it just a typical paper filter inside or is it a mesh filter that can be cleaned?

I was going to order one from Injen, but have been looking at a K&N fuel billet filter with AN fittings that I might modify it with whatever filter is being used in the Injen one. I heard AEM has one also but I haven't seen one yet...

Note sure what is inside, but it can't be cleaned. Injen recommends changing the filter every 10K or 12K miles. They only cost like $8 so not a big deal. When I change mine I'll cut the old one open and see whats inside.
