Well damn I read this post about two weeks back and I was like it will never happen to me! Guess what lol

But for me its 1st gear, and 2nd sometimes.

They better replace the damn thing, I guess working at the dealer should help lol.

Hmm . . . dunno about grinding. But I know that on a cold start I'll shift into first and get a single metal clinking sound. Is this normal? Is this what u guys are talking about? I'm a newb to stick so any help would be appreciated.

This happens to me a lot in my car now that it's winter, and I just got the clutch replaced in it. It's not so much a clinking sound but more like I have to absolutely shove it into first at a stop even with the clutch pressed way down, and sometimes it makes a noise but then after I drive for a block or two it goes away, so I think your car is alright. Then again, I'm not a car mechanic, so any other opinions?

well i have problems too. i was riding down the interstate and my 5th gear popped out. never heard of it before but it wont stay in 5th gear at all. if you hold it in 5th it will drive but its forced out. anybody kno wat this could be? i think its the syncros but i didnt kno how they worked as far as if they kept it in gear or not. goes in on tuesday.

^^ yes it definitely sounds like the syncros pushing 5th gear back out. If they are defective they won't lock 5th gear into the input shaft. Other times the shift detents, if bad, wouldn't allow the gear to stay in position. But i agree with your thinking, synchros.

i'll laugh so hard i'll cry if the dealer actually gives you the excuse "oh that's normal".. lol since that's what they usually do for most everything

lol yea it depends on the dealer i guess. but back in delaware i went to my dealer but i put my stock one back in and they wernt goin to replace it cuz i had different tires and suspension on it but they cant say that stuff messed up the trans. but this dealer out here in oklahoma asked no questions they called me yesterday mornin and said that the transmission should be in this mornin so i should have it back today or tomoro. and i left my shifter in this time because i dont have my stock one out here. a shifter cant cause problems either, so i would of fought that or maybe you should put the stock one back in.

This is the exact problem that I had when driving yesterday! I hadn't had any problems at all. I had my cruise set to 70mph & it literally just fell out of 5th and won't stay unless I keep my hand on the gear. I'm out of town and will go to my Toyota dealer on Thursday. I'm at 67K, so I'm worried they'll say that it's not covered. That shouldn't happen to a car at 67K miles though. Any advice on what to tell the dealer since you have had 3 new transmissions replaced for free?
