So to answer your question...

Being an employee of the store you will most likely be told thier is nothing they can do for you. You could move up the chain of command but I think you will recieve the same respone every time. To make matters worse it doesn't seem you have a very strong case, at this point we all, including yourself, are starting to question if it really was a cart. Bottom line, anything is possible, but the store paying for your damage seems unlikely.

Update: Estimate between $1200 and $1500

Picture of the crater.

40+ mph winds + shopping cart + 1000 feet to get going = ^^^

scratches line up where the cart would be. It is too high and square to be a car. It made contact in 4 or five places up and down the panel.

It really does not look like a shopping cart mold in my mind, looks vehicle realated. That really sucks, I fear this every time i leave my car in public.

if you look close you can see a series of scratches. There are four or five. That is from the rails on the cart.... the one's the go around the basket portion in the front. I'm thinking it came from behind my car and to the driver's side. The front right corner must have hit the car.

no way a cart did that unless someone hit the cart w/ their car and pushed it into your car. shopping carts just dont have the weight to dent it that deep no matter how fast it was going.

HOLY ****!I'm sorry but that does NOT look like an accident.
That makes my shopping cart incident look like nothing.

maybe somebody was playing jackass and riding in the shopping cart. an empty cart can't make that deep a dent.

thats not a shopping cart!. and if it was a cart someone had to push it all the way until it hit your car, not just let it go and let the wind drag the cart. sorry man!

i don't think you guys realize how windy it was last night when it happened. The carts we have at the store are heavy. If this thing got a good gust behind it for a hundred feet or so, BAM, thats what you get. Too bad it didn't hit the plastic bumper or something. Then there would probably be no damage.

I'm going to the appraiser in a bit. I'll know better how much its gonna cost. On the good side, if it wasn't a car it is covered under my "comprehensive" insurance. Only a $300 deductible instead of $500.

What, did you have a tornado? I still don't think it can be possible that wind caused it.

After seeing the pictures I doubt that a cart did that much damage on its own. Most likely a car 'bumped' the cart into your car

the marks do look like its a cart ....and ive seen carts take off in the parking lot due to high wind ....but ide go to the place and see if they have it on camera so they can either catch the person that did it or atleast find out what happened. If someone let their cart go full of food .... at some point they had to go get it ...so that will be on camera.
