To JCool - Im posting this here too. (Sorry for going off topic guys)
After the PM that was sent on 3/6/08 stating that I was going to contact the post office about it being lost or stolen (considering I can file a claim since i purchased insurance for it), I called them Monday morning, 3/10/08, and asked how to file. A claim has been filed online, and for your reference here are the guidelines:
When can I file a claim?
Claims for Loss can be filed 21 days (after mailing) at the earliest, and no more than 180 days after mailing. Claims for Damage or Partial Loss may be filed immediately, and no more than 60 days after mailing. For items destined for APO/FPO locations, the earliest filing is 45 days after mailing, and no more than one year after mailing. For more information about claims filing timeframes, visit: http://www.usps.com/insuranceclaims/domestic.htm
If you submit your claim online prior to the earliest filing date, we will save the claim for you, but we will not start processing it until the earliest filing date.
The claim was eligible to be filed as of 3/8/08. I filed online Monday morning.
How long does the online claims submission process take? / When can I expect a decision?
Submitting your claim online will take approximately 15 minutes or longer per article depending on the amount of items in your package. If you are filing a damaged claim, you will also need to submit your damaged item and the packaging to any Post OfficeTM (see Proof of Damage FAQ) within three business days.
You may submit your claim online prior to the earliest filing date; however, processing will not begin until the earliest filing date and will remain in a saved status until that time. You may also submit your claim online after the latest filing date but results may be impacted by the delay.
If your claim is complete: you have submitted Proof of Value, Proof of Damage, and any other substantiation, you can expect to hear back from the Claims Processing Section within ten business days.
If I were a buyer, I'd feel shady too due to the amount of time taken in this situation. As a seller, however, I'm protecting myself. I have no way of knowing if you're being shady as well. As stated in the guidelines, I should hear back within 10 business days. Then this entire mess will be over and done with. As stated before, I'm not returning money until I have the returned goods or the insurance refunds my money for the goods.
