Has anyone EVER done this?

Has anyone EVER done this?
So I got fix it ticket for tinted windows/modified exhaust. I was thinking, what if I can find someone with the same car as mine but stock and I switch the plates for a day and bring it in to the police for them to stamp my ticket.
Will this work?
Do they check the VIN when you bring it in?
feed back plzzzzz thanks!
[Edit]: I forgot to mention that I want to keep my exhaust/tint on because it'll cost me $140 if I get my tint removed and put back on.

To the OP, you're only about the 200th person to suggest doing this, but no one has been stupid enough to try it. The cop may or may not check your VIN number, but they certainly have a right to do so if they have any reason to doubt whose car it is, or if the cop just doesn't like the way you look. If you do get caught doing this, you could be looking at felony obstruction of justice charges.

i kind of did the samething. mail the ticket pleaing not guilty wait for the court date, and take a pic of a stock tc(your color) print them out and take them to court and the ticket will be dissmessed and just say you removed them yourself. they will not waste thier time going out side to look at your car. do the same for and exhaust ticket, say you put the stock one on yourself and take a pic of a stock exhaust.

[/qote] Could be different in NY, but a picture just won't cut it in CA. You have to bring the vehicle to the designated inspection point, and an inspector will look at your ticket and then check the vehicle. When I had my fix-it ticket, I went to the inspection area and the inspector was outside already looking at cars. There was a little booth where he sits outside and waits for people to come for inspections. Pictures won't work.[/quote]
Did you think he took a look at your VIN? my friend told me they just glance at the car and signs off what needs to be fixed

He didn't look at my VIN number, but he could look at your VIN number if something doesn't seem right. It's a risk, and it's your call. But for me, he did more than just glance at the car. He walked all around the car and it seemed like he was looking for any other violations, although the ticket was only for tint and the front license plate. When he was checking the windows, he asked me to open the door and he looked pretty closely at it.

throwing in my 2 cents since i live in cali. now the times i have gotten fix it tickets it was for tint they just look at your car and make sure the licnse plate match with the ticket. they could check your vin number but i very much doubt it cuz the vin isn't on the ticket so they would have to bring up your licsne plate meaning they have to get to a computer. but i still wouldn't do it cuz if you do get caught you'll regret the poop out of it. as far as for the exhaust, now they might do it or might not, but couple of my friend's got tickets for modded exhaust and it took more then just a cop to look at it and write it off you have to take it to a refferre station and your car gets completely viewed and if you have anything else such as an intake you won't pass and he'll make you take it off and come back. and you do have to pay everytime you see this guy. and they check everything even make sure it passes smog and rev your eneinge to make sure it doesn't sound anything more then just stock. then when you do pass he gives you a piece of paper then the cop writes it off. well good luck with that and tell us what they make you do.

ok first of all don't try and fool the court/cops...it never turns out good. second, in so cal...cops can no longer just sign off tickets...you're gonna need to take it to a state referee...there's one at fullerton college (not CSF) and have them do an emission and db test...if you are within legal limits...you take that to the secretary at the court and have the ticket taken care of at that point...but the tint...gotta go

slow your roll alex...i am not wrong...completely. You are correct IF it's a fix it ticket. But a lot of times they're not just fix it tickets. And he could have gotten a fix it ticket for the tint...and a court reportable for the exhaust. If it is a fix it ticket for both, then find a cool cop...but either way, if you get the certification from the ref, then any cop will sign it off. You ok alex? You seem a little irritable?
