depends ... it could be many things ... if you got 5000 miles on it its no biggy thats what happens. You might need another oil change, becauase whoever may have done it didnt either change filter or didnt change oil. There could also be a oil leak (which i doubt , but you may never know).Do you feel or hear any problems?? Take it to the dealer thats all !!

the light probably was not reset the last time you had your oil changed, when you get to a certain mileage it goes on recomending service. If it was the check engine light thats a different story. I would take it to the dealer they can reset it for you.

Here it is in a nutshell!!! That light comes on at every 5000 miles. To reset it, you can read your owners manual or STEP 1 make sure that your ODOmeter is on ODO STEP 2 Turn off ignition STEP 3 Push and hold ODO stem and turn on ignition. STEP 4 Keep holding ODO stem down until all the bars have disappeared on the odometer.

There you go!!!

Are you on your second oil change? If so the dealer did not reset the indicator.

I'm in a good mood, so I'll be nice .

Oil change doesn't mean replenish oil you've lost. It means take out dirty oil and replace it with clean oil. Checking to see if it's still full doesn't mean that you don't need an oil CHANGE (notice not oil REPLENISH) . Just because you get oil changed, it does not mean your light was reset. It's mile tripped, and most likely you got your first oil change from the dealer and they reset the light, and the 2nd time they forgot too.

And yes, get as many oil changes as you want, Anything below 4-5000 miles intervals won't give you any benefit.

dude wtf is ur problem? you can't read or something? the light doesn't mean squat.. the light comes on every 5000 miles when it hasn't been reset. your dealer probably didn't reset it when you change oil last time.

Thats because some techs reset it the 5K count, whereas some skip the step. For my first oil change, they didnt reset it for me, for my second they did. So that may explain why your light is just coming on now and didnt come on before. You can always ask the tech if they did or not for your future oil changes.

And no, you dont need another oil change if you just got one 1000 miles ago. But you do need to read the manual for instructions on how to reset your maintance light.

I won't stop posting, so if you feel like being captain save-a-topic (hey what a coincidence given your username) then feel free. You notice the original poster didn't even get annoyed about my post, since it was meant in a lighthearted manner. You're the one who took offense to it, so perhaps YOU need to chill out.

I don't understand why people can't read the car's user manual before posting stupid crap like this. I have seen this exact same topic at least 10 times in the past 2 months. Are newer tC owner's legally retarded? The maintenance light is programmed to come on every 5000 miles. So if you get the oil changed at 4999 miles and the guy doesn't reset the odometer or you don't know how to either (since you haven't opened the user manual), the light will come on during your trip back home. Then you will freak out and post here at SL.com.
