aslong as there's no frame damage or airbags u should be good

The only one who is going to be able to say it is totaled is your insurance. And they're probably right about you following too close. If you were at a safe distance you would have time to react and/or apply the brakes.

Sucks though. Sorry many.

i thought, 2 car lengths was where you are supposed to be on the highway?

doesn't look totaled but again, only you insurance can tell you.

I think you're supposed to go by the 3 or 5 second rule. It works out to be a lot more than 2 car lengths at highway speeds.

also, regardless of somebody tail-gating you use the brakes. if the car behind you hits you, that is their fault. not yours. they're liable for their actions just like you are.

If you couldn't see a fridge in the middle of the road, then you should be at fault.

Depends on what you need. OEM parts? Aftermarket?

You could try here:

I hate these threads! Its up to your insurance agent. What good is it gonna do to ask as? We arent there looking at it and most of us arent insurance agents. It sucks what happens but just share your story. Leave the answer to the insurance guy.

Not totaled but verify no frame damage, verify no frame damage, verify no frame damage....I don't know how many times to say it but verify no frame damage. You'll be surprised how many times i've looked at pics and saw only minor damage just to find frame damage and the car be totaled so once again verify no frame damage.

Exactly. Here in Texas, that is the law.

If that situation came up with me, I'd be slamming them brakes down and the idiot who decided to be 4 feet from my bumper will be paying for everything...maybe even a new car.

Edit: Unless I was in my Mustang, then I'd be going to prison because there wouldn't be another driver to question...just a corpse...

The estimate you got probably includes aftermarket or LKQ (used) parts. When I wrote an estimate, I had to call 3 suppliers for the major parts and get quotes. So, looking for your own may be a lost cause. I'd recommend handing the estimate to a shop and calling it a day and letting them deal with your insurance. If you know a shop that will do work under the table, of course, that is different.
