Do they go off when you lock the car? I found out I left my parking lights on yesterday and I didn't notice until I turned the car on.

The only way you can leave your lights on is if you turn your lights on after you turn your car off and open the driver's door.

This is what happened, yesterday I turned my parking lights when it was turning darker in the afternoon. I parked and didn't know they were on. But when I locked the car I always check my parking skillz and I didn't see it was on. But then I went to Taco Bell, I realized they were on. Does the Scion have a protection device that shuts off the lights anyways after locking the car?

If your lights are ON when you turn the car off... they will automatically turn off when you open the door to get out of the car. Locking has nothing to do with it.

They will turn right back on after you get back in and start it.

the feature might only work if you have your headlights on, not just your parking lights. that might be why your parking lights were still on, if you're saying you got back to your car and they were. but i really don't know.

i do know however, that there is another way to leave your lights on. i learned this the hard way unfortunately. i had parked in front of my house one night, and didn't turn my lights off manually when i got out. they turned off by the auto-off function. a while later, i went to go check a cd i had made by getting in on the PASSENGER side, turning the key to ACC, and playing music. i turned it off, got out and went back inside. a few hours later my neighbor came over and told me my lights were on.

so in conclusion, the auto off feature only works when the drivers door is opened, not the passenger. this may be stated in the manual, but i apparently missed it, and felt like an idiot as a result.

Yea i always just leave the lights on 24/7 they just turn off when you turn the car off then as soon as you open the door they shut off....also i love how the power windows still work after you turn the car off too. This car is nothing but a smart with american laziness written all over it. I love it!

Is this a feature found in other cars? Or is the tC just so special with numerous features that it's almost godlike?

Although I am aware of this, I still manage to do this on occasion. While the car is parked I'll get in the passenger side to roll up the windows/remove a CD/etc. and walk away from the car before going back and turning the lights off.

I frequently leave the lights on at AutoX's because I will have the car running with the windows down and reach through the window and turn the car off if there is a delay in starting. I usually remember quickly and go open and close the driver's side door.

notice this technology from toyota has been like this probably before 1993 (my camry does it).

the lights will auto-off only if you turn your car off and OPEN THE DOOR....

but it will not turn off if you OPEN THE DOOR then turn your car off...

I've heard several people say this, including some dealer sales reps, and I'm guessing its because other Toyota models did this. Regardless, they're wrong. They do turn off even if you open the door first before you turn off the car. Go try it yourself, I just did to verify it.

Has far more to do with the battery then the car itself. Although the amount of power used by the lights is a factor, the type of battery and its capacity play a far greater roll. In short, your friend didn’t have a very good battery. Maybe Acura went elcheapo on the batteries in the RSX, or it was old. lol

i tried this last night....

left my light on, took the key out then the annoying noise. closed my door....and waited for it to go out....maybe its just on yaz tC's....my xB's lights stay bright. so maybe some of you are wrong---its not for all new cars.
