nightrider: I hope you meant to type 4 cylinder? I've never seen a dealer screw someone THAT bad!

I'm going to use it as a commuter. My commute starting next week is jumping to 100 miles roundtrip...so I'm concerned with highway mileage. Right now I get about 16 in my truck so 30 would cut my fuel costs a LOT.

I don't know if any one has said this but when you refill your tank, the indicator goes past the full line and it sits there for a good 30 or 40 miles. Man it's nice.

Yeah, mine stays there until about 70 before hitting the top bar b/c I adjusted it to give me a true Empty reading. My alert light comes on at about a little over 1/8 of a tank and I have 3 gallons left to that. I like the early warning system. I would rather have a true empty reading than full reading, especially on a road trip.

How does one adjust the fuel indicator in such a way?

It was when I was doing my LED swap for my gauges. I couldn't get it exactly back to stock b/c I kept turning the needle past the stock position and losing my place. Take out your cluster, pop off the fuel needle, start at the full mark and push the needle back in on the spindle, lower it to your desired absolute empty level and you're done. Just remember, your alert light pops on at about 2.5-3 gallons left so if you're at a 1/4 tank and it comes on, you may want to push the needle just a hair closer to empty. Mine goes bone dry with the needle touching the bottom side of the bottom line.

mine didn't hit the Full mark until about 75 - 80 miles after a fill up. And my needle isn't altered. But now with my issue i'm having, it hits the mark at about 45-50 and im not too happy about that.

Hey, if you get that mileage, awesome. Who cares if others don't believe you. They pay more for gas!!

30.5 mpg on my last tank! i'd say 70/30 hwy/city. my best outside of road trips (where i'm usually around 32-34)

neutral saves you gas, less rpms = less stress on the car = less fuel consumption = common sense.

I got great mileage on my first ride ever from the dealership because I was babying it so much lol so i will continue to do that.

Too many people have done this test to conclude that there is actually no difference (and if there is it's not noticeable in a tank) between riding neutral or downshifting. The only thing you'll be saving is a little extra wear and tear on your engine.

Engine braking turns off the injectors however the computer still computes the injector pulses and the ScanGauge will show fuel being injected even when it is not being injected. The result if you engine brake even a few times at high rpm over a tank my be as much as a helf a gallon difference between what the SG says you burned and what you put in at the pump. This throws off the MPG calculation a lot in the SG for the tank. I.E. 4k RPM downshift burns .6gph indicated by the SG but nothing is being used. It will help lubricate the upper cylinder rings and valve guides and polish the back sides of the tranny gears.

It will save you some gas if you have to slow down a little anyway because the fuel is completely shut off vs burning some to idle the engine in neutral but the tradeoff is the coasting distance will be reduced.

I double clutch/rev match just out of habit and shift into neutral at around 1000-1200K at a stop. Personally, I have never noticed any difference in fuel consumption doing that vs. just shifting into neutral and coasting to a stop.

Dr. Isotope has also explained a good bit of this to me as well and he also did not notice any significant difference in fuel consumption.

IF other's have found different figures (1/2 gallon as mentioned above), the extra 15 miles to my tank won't do much a difference in my driving style.

True not much of a difference unless you have to push the car that far or consider 52 times that for a tank a week in a years time = 780 miles if you get 30mpg.
