the headers is obvious...
So it appears they made a few minor changes in the engine bay in order to keep the ~160hp under the new SAE guidelines.

I think the consensus is that the 07s are following the new SAE rules, therefore the difference in horsepower is more than just 1.
I remember the same thing happened to the RX-8 when it came out. They were actually issuing small refund's off the MSRP to people who already purchased one with the incorrect horsepower advertised. Maybe the same can happen for all 05/06 owners?

cool, but i think it's stupid to wanna sell an 06 for an 07 for the small changes. I"m keeping mine and i don't have to worry about getting mods on it, like the 07 does, meaning SC and Intake and probably a few other things. Congrats on teh car though.

^^ definately not a good idea to sell earlier models for 07.... unless the car has significant problems. The RX-8 was not only a victim of old and new SAE rating, but Mazda just claimed an overestimated number...... I think that was originally 250, then 240, then 238 now? If they didnt offer to buy back, they would seriously lose many rotary fans. All Jap car manufacturers had to change to new SAE standards (around Aug 05) and most lowered their claimed BHP (toyota took a larger hit than NIssan or Honda). 06 tC's probably already had their pricing and HP/torque figures done before Aug 05........ 6HP isnt much but it's something. But 07's have to wait for proper fitting of S/C and intakes and such.

I highly doubt they would loose many rotary fans for over-estimated numbers. Rotary guys are pretty hardcore about the engine and will put up with all of the quirks of the rotaries just to have one. I think they would loose more people that just thought the RX-8 was a "cool" car or "sporty looking". Those are the people they will loose, not the rotor-heads.

Second

Besides, an aftermarket comapany finally released the RX-8 with a turbo. Made 100+ more ponies. I wanna say around 120 but I dont remember 100%.

I think the main difference is the RPM at which the power comes in... I looked at the 06 specs on edmunds.com and it says 160hp at 6000rpm, and 163lb ft at 4200rpm.

The 07 specs on scion.com say 161hp at 5700rpm abd 163lb ft at 4000rpm.

So the power went up that tiny 1hp, but also arrives earlier, so overall feels more powerful I guess.

nah u got it backwards bro.

The 05-06 tC makes 160 Pre SAE hp at 5700 RPm and 163 tq at 4000

and the 07's make 161 (post SAE) hp at 6000 and 162 tq

anyone correct me if im wrong, i dont want to give out wrong info

^^
thats right

however, the ECU is changed, so it is possible that the powerband is different. I havent seen a dyno of a stock 07 tC, but i have a feeling it won't look exactly the same as the 05-06's - even if its just a little different.
