Default This is kind of bugging me...

Okay, so I just did a poll on how many drive auto vs. manual. I didn't do it for my health there was a reason lol. However, I honestly dont understand why so many put down people who drive automatics. I mean, so what? It's their preference. Just like driving manual is a preference right? So why is it so looked down on when people are doin stuff to their cars and its automatic. I cant believe HOW many times I'd go to a show and hear people like " ew.... that ones an automatic " like it was crap, but the car LOOKED AMAZING I mean seriously astonishing, it was like all that hard work and money the owner put in was downgraded because it was automatic? I mean seriously whats up w/ that? Ha, welll just ranting. I, personally, drive both, because I have the luxury. But what about those who just perfer it? Who cares. Still show some respect ya know?

Aright. So it all boils down to this question.

Why are people who drive automatics discriminated? lol

x2. Even though I drive an auto. Whatever. Did you hated on? lol. I like my auto because personally I don't have the attention span and coordination required for manual ... a guy has to be able to talk on the phone, drink a soda and knee drive ... things I have yet to master in a manual.

I drive an auto because I lived in Texas my whole life. You would drive an auto to if you ever had to spend 15 hours in deadlock traffic evacuating from a hurricane. Trust me is suck big floppy donky dongs. For the record I would much prefer a standard but love my auto the same.

I think its about the (and dont hate on the stereotype, just trying to give a possible reason) manlyness of a manual over a auto. A high Performance car threw the years has always been manuals so you can manipulate the cars power. So when people see an auto with performance or show mods, they look at it as what a waste of potential. A true car nerd couldnt live with an automatic.
I, in away agree with what I just posted. But I do understand that for most people their cars are daily drivers. And if the need for an auto due to commuting is needed, then I say go for it.
Now if the excuse is, I cant drive a stick or I am not good at it, then I look down on the person because it shows the lack of desire to learn or even try.

I just like driving a manual, it's more fun. But I understand an auto for those who deal with heavy traffic congestion everyday. The tC has a light clutch, but my leg still gets tired when in heavy traffic.

Glad you posted this because it's something everyone driving an auto has run into. To me I bought my rs2 with an auto. Would I have purchased a 5 speed if they had it...mmmm maybe. We drive tC's. Not Maserati's or Ferrari's . Sure driving a 5 speed put's you in more control but let's face it, it really is more of a "fun factor" then a serious performance factor. With the RARE exceptions of those VERY FEW individuals that have bellied up 300+ hp under their hoods with their mods. Again though, those are VERY VERY few. So nobody hate on Auto drivers because they didn't buy a 5 speed. That makes no sense, that's about as logical as hating on someone because of the color of their car. It's THEIR car, they love it, they make the payements so just be happy you met a new Scionite. Ok said my piece buh bye.

eh, it really should be a matter of preference. Some like manual, some like auto. Just b/c it's an auto doesnt make the car any worst.

Well I drove auto's before, I prefer manual, and yes it is a fun factor. A lot of people I ran into that drive auto are sometimes intimated by manuals... if anything its a chance for me to get a hot girl in my car... and teach the ways of a stick... Manual or auto... a scion is a scion =P

Transmission is a personal preference. Whatever you get is fine with me; the only thing that bothers me is when people are "posers" and try to pretend they drive stick even though they have automatics. I haven't seen too many on these forums (and you're not one, obviously), but they're out there. Honestly, why do they do that? Because they think driving stick is cooler, or something - but maybe they don't have the personal dedication to learn to drive. It takes discipline, dedication, and the willingness to learn and develop coordination and skill to drive manual. I suppose those who look down on those who heavily modify automatics consider these people to be part of the "all show no go" crowd since they spend so much money trying to make their car fast and yet are not willing to learn the skill necessary to control the car to its fullest extent - almost like they are willing to do everything else but skipping over the transmission simply because they can't be bothered to learn to shift their own gears. That's what I am assuming people are thinking, anyways.

Really, it comes down to looking down on perceived "laziness." Whether or not this laziness exists in reality is what needs to be answered on a case-by-case basis.

I personally like manual much more, since you're really driving and not just riding. I like being in complete control of the car, as well as being one with my car. Automatics tend to breed bad driving habits, and headaches for many of us who drive manuals.

Keep in mind these are just general rules; there are good automatic drivers and bad manual drivers out there.

Just buy what you want, and be happy about it. Don't pay attention to what other people say if you're just being true to yourself!

Also, whether you drive a 4spd or 5spd tC, you still have a tC. As long as you are proud of it and want to be part of the Scion community (and not treat it like a "regular" car!) then you're always part of our family! :D
