Default Limiting Door Swing

So as we all know, the tC's door opens at a 90 degree angle when opened all the way and it doesn't really have a stopping point until about 45 degrees. Everytime I'm driving someone, I have to warn them to open the door really slowly and not to push it open, otherwise, they're gonna hit the other car next to them.

My question is, is there a way we can limit our door swing? Perhaps a locking mechanism that will stop the door at a 45 degree angle and can't be open any further? Just a thought.

I had one of my friends swing open my door cause it looked like it was clear. There was a pole. Atleast it hit the door handle and was right at that point it started to stop swinging open. I would love to limit door swing.

It doesn't help that there aren't really any good gripping points, either...

Yea i ended up having to put some rubber stoppers on my door to prevent damage to cars when the passenger decides to swing open the door.

I need the same thing, my GF slammed the door into her own car when the wind caught it. I never open my door past the 1st stopping point unless I'm cleaning the floors.

yeah my co-worker had a tc and got rid of it cuz it has a huge gash in the door cuz her son swung open the door at a gas station and it gashed up the door. until there's a solution i guess we just gotta remember to tell all our passengers to be careful. Here in Chicago we get some crazy windy days, its scary!

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I just got my tC 2 days ago. My girlfriend has already hit her car with her door, and I hit someone else's car yesterday.

I was super careful, too. It was at the halfway point, and I let go for a moment to get inside the car. >.<

Will be looking for door bumpers tonight.

The only thing you can do is put those little rubber things on the outside edge of the door. If you're hitting that many cars though - you're doing it wrong - and your friends aren't listening to you.

I never have any problems hitting other vehicles with my door - and I've had my tC for well over 5 years. You just have to realize that you have a 2 door vehicle that has large and heavy doors. They swing wider and faster than any tiny little Honda doors or any other 4 door vehicle.

Lol @ I'm doing it wrong.

I just got to work and it's a flat parking lot. I lightly pushed on my door. It got to the first stop, slowed down, and then went completely open. Am I still doing it wrong?

Try not "lightly" pushing your door. Try holding on to it until it is at the first stopping point. Make sure it is stable there before you let go.

If you're pushing on it to open it and letting go - you have to realize that a door that heavy carries quite a bit of momentum (compared to a lot of other doors) and will continue to swing long after you hoped it would stop.

... do people really need a how-to on opening a door correctly?

2 Doors in general have a large swing so people can get in and out of the back seat. & its usually the passengers who are unfamiliar with the car and F stuff up. Would be be cool to have a 45 degree lock on the passenger.

+1 on the rubber stopper, or you can put clear bra on the edge where the rubber stopper would have been
