Default Main't Req'd Light flashing at me... how do I reset it?

When I start the car, the Main't Req'd light (NOT the CEL) flashes at me for 10 seconds or so and then turns off.

On my old truck, which I still have a haynes manual for, the Main't Req'd light would activate after a certain amount of fuel was consumed... and the only way to turn it off was to take the car into the dealership for "emissions component maintenance".

My question is, is the tC the same way with the Main't Req'd light, in that it would activate when it needed emissions service, or is it just flashing to remind me I need to change my oil? I change my own oil so I clearly don't reset the computer in any way.

Also if it is for something such as oil or something stupid like that, is there any way to reset the light other than taking out the gauge cluster and soldering off the LED?... cuz that's looking tempting

It's an '07 tC Automatic and just went over 12k miles. Thanks in advance!

It is flashing b/c it has been 4500 miles since your last oil change (or at least since it was reset last). It will stay on solid at 5000 miles since last reset.

It's supposed to be a reminder to get your oil changed and other maintenance.

You should look it up in your manual though... will explain further and how to reset it. Or you could search the forums a bit more.

Ah...

Well in that case... I believe this would be how you do it:

- Turn the key on.
- Make sure your odometer is on the odometer (and not one of the trip displays)
- Turn the key off.
- Hold down the trip reset button.
- Turn the key on.
- Keep holding the reset button until you see "- - - - -"

I believe it will show 00000 first and then they'll count down and when they're gone you should see the - - - - -. Then let go of the trip button.

Thanks! I just found it via search tool too... sorry the Dodge forum I used to come on had the worst search tool in the world (would only find one topic) so I'm not really used to it.

Bad idea. You should change it every 5,000 miles or less.

I'm thinking it was changed at 5k and then again at 10k (he's only at 12k right now).
