if it cuts ignition wouldnt that mean that a whole mess of gas will be blowing out of the exhaust(or get burned up by the cat. coverter) that doesnt sound too healthy. A fuel cut sounds more economical

Ok end rant.
Sounds like someone wants a rotary!!

13B-REW paired with the Manual trans redlines at 8500. You would still have 700 RPM's to go!!!!

my integra redlines at 8500 and rated to go all the way to 9000 , but i can hear the motor and i know the power band drops right at 8450 , so i have this problem with the tc i always hit the rev limit , it revs way to quick but i like that

Ah Joe@Dazed..SAME exact thing happened to me on the highway man..SAME exact thing..I thought my tranny/clutch was GONE..yet my car is still pulling strong. (This happened a few months ago, right when I broke her in)

Toyota rocks man.

I think the S2000 redlines high too but I don't know the powerband of that.

I can tell you taht rotary's don't really have power untill 5200 rpms though.

Its fun to take friends around that are like oh its slow...and then you hit 5200...hehehe.

Oh well,

Its nice to find out that our tC's will take a misshift or too. Makes me feel better about teaching friends to drive manuals on it.

every once in a while my clutch wont engage fast enough and i get a slight tap on the 3rd gear when upshifting from no clutch engagement, but only when i am racing it, so no worries, no damage

I've misshifted from 3rd to 2nd several times, all but one time in the low revs. The one time when I was in 3rd and probably around 5-6k I misshifted to 2nd...I really can't remember how long it took me to react after I gassed it, as I was paying more attention to steering, but I don't think I spent too much time in 2nd.

Anyway, I'm a bit of a worry wort and would like to know what some things to look for or listen for to see if my engine is still okay. I would like to get it checked, but I don't know how much it costs and if I really need it yet--I think the car is operating fine but then again, I don't know much about mechanics...any suggestions?

I'll second that...

There were many times where I would downshift into 1st @ like 30mph or so to take a quick turn in my Corolla... thing took it like a champ!

A benz of all things I had to get used to the clutch on my tC...not my first stick but you still have to learn it. I stalled on a hill..freaked out and floored it and peeled out and had everyone lookin at me...

Well, I finally got around to doing the compression test--boy it seems this motor can take some abuse! (I've money shifted a couple times since my last post in this thread--boy I suck! )

My cylinder readings were: (in PSI) 200 190 190 195

Repair Manual says the spec is 189 PSI, 145 being the minimum.

The new Yamaha YZF-R6 redlines at 17,500 RPM.

Yes, granted, it's a motorcycle. That's still a ridiculous redline. Of course, you have to rev the thing up to almost 10k before you even hit the powerband, so it's not too useful on the street.

I've been spending so much time around motorcycles lately that I have to get used to cars having such low redlines again. Even my parallel twin Triumph redlines at 7500 RPM (and pulls hard right until the rev limiter, so I wish I could reset the limiter for another 500 RPM higher). I can't help but be a little surprised whenever I look at a car tachometer.

That said, I've heard of people removing the rev limiters from Triumph parallel twins like mine and revving them to over 10k without any damage. Manufacturers generally set the rev limiter very conservatively to reduce the possibility of damage. You have to figure that Toyota is going to assume that people will occasionally mis-shift down a gear instead of up -- it would surprise me if the engine couldn't handle a momentary spike to 8000 RPM.

when shifting for speed like that, my technique is to shift fron 3rd to forth with only finger tips and without actually gabring it, that way it perfectly goes in every time

yea i have to agree with him, i have been shifting with my palm facing down and havent had a problem, for about a month now, learned that real quick wen i got my car in late may... u might wanna try shifting like this

06_t_cizzle,
does your tranny grind a lot when going from 2-3, or 3-4? Mine did, and I often misshifted. I don't know if it's related (I betting it is), but after I had my tranny overhauled under warranty for bad synchros, I have yet to mishift in this car. Granted, I think the work the dealer did on my tranny was crap (shifter is freakin' notchy now), but at least it doesn't grind as much and I have yet to mishift.
