So .... for us xA / xB owners, sticking with a 185 or 195 width is gonna be the best width tire for mpg (195 is especially nice, since its a little wider/ more secure when cornering , yet many users of 195's haven't noticed a real mpg decline vs. 185
now back on topic, most mpg i got was 350 in the spring

wider tire = better traction = less freewheeling = lower rpms = increase gas mileage.
However, in general(given all weather conditions), a wider tire vs. a slightly more narrow tire = less mpg.
There shouldn't be any reason for freewheeling unless you hit a patch of loose gravel while first taking off(under 10mph).

the most I've ever got out of a tank was 350 miles. The light usually comes on around 320-330, and thats when usually I fill up.
oh, and I drive a stock '08 M/T, and I usually shift around 3k RPM (which is considered "by the book" I believe).

ya i almost always fill up a quarter tank...it seems like i get 200-220 miles outta the first half of the tanks and then 80-100 out of the second half if I drive it till empty, whats with that?

i usually drive 390 miles on three days on one tank and get 32-33 mpg i did get one tank of 440, but i was coasting in on fumes.
this is on curvy two lane road with a top speed of about 65 at most. and an elevation change of a little over 1000ft.

I went all the way to Princeton, WV from Wilmington, DE (8 hours, just over 500 miles) on one single tank and my gas light still didn't come on for a while after. Mostly highway and I used the cruise control alot, which helped on gas. This was before I had anything installed and my engine was only stock... although my step-dad tweaked it a bit and he won't tell me what he did. lol But he gave it ALOT more power and its amazing on gas.

That is impossible in our car. Impossible in the majority of the cars on the road.

lol may sound impossible, but it happened. plus, like I said, it's been tweaked to get better gas mileage. that plus cruise control can save alot of gas.

You might want to get your car checked out then. That is so far out of normality that there is something not right going on with your car. I have done the whole 65mph pure cruise for 6 hours, and have seen 30MPG. Thats a tad higher than they say you should get.
But 40 is not going to happen.

Btw, Microsoft Live Maps says that journey is 425 miles.
