i made it all the way from san jose to LA on one tank and then still had more left to go traveling around
probably about 430-440 miles before the gas gauge was dangerously low.

I've gotten 37 MPG once before. It's ALL highway where I live so I just popped the cruise ctrl in at 60 and drove like a granny in town to get my high score. I recalculate it several times too because I couldn't believe it. I still don't believe it....I get 31 average I always fill up 10-11 gallons so 370-407 was my high score.

37 MPG Average 50/50 City/Hwy = 481 Miles on 1 Tank!
How?
Well, remove all of the trunk...spare tire and equipment to change the tire. remove all of the plastic aesthetics. Remove the back seats saves a little more than 100 lbs.
Don't exceed 2000 rpm in town (I have a manual) and set the cruise control on the highway at 55 mph.
I promise it worked and with the price of gas these days I've been trying to get 500 miles out of my tC before having to fill up but this is as close as I've come.

So after seeing this thread I was curious to see how many miles I could push outta my tC. I filled up a few days ago and I have been driving very conservatively to see how many miles I could get out of one tank.
Now I am a pizza delivery guy in a rural suburb. So I wouldn't consider the driving I have been doing on this tank city or highway, more of a mix I suppose. Especially since I don't turn off my car when I get to people's houses, or when I stop back at the pizza shop to pick up another order, so the car is constantly running. For this reason I didn't expect to get that great of mileage.
Well today the light came on and I drove the car for another 10 miles. When I stopped for gas I had driven the car 417.1 miles! I was pretty impressed. After filling up the car the exact same way I had filled it the last time the tank took 13.9 gallons. So after doing the math...30.007XXX mpg!
I must say I am pretty impressed considering the rated mpg for a manual tC is 29 mpg highway I believe.
Now for the next test...drive the car like I usually do on this tank (which in my opinion is pretty hard) and see what kind of difference in mpg I get.

I'm getting my car back this coming week.
I'm gonna lean out my tune between 14.7-15.0 afr, slowly in vacuum, i'm not gonna do big changes at once. So I can avoid knocking =p
Lets see if I can get some better mileage. Datalogging FTW ^^
Then i'll how far I can go on a full tank of gas. Obviously i'll have to stay off of boost. In order for me to see how well it does.
I'll keep everyone posted ^^

Ha... no, 345 miles isn't too bad, but it depends on how many gallons it took you to fill it up.

first i thought my tank was only 13.5 gallons lol.
came to find out today its more than that, but with 13.5 i used to get like 325 to 330 without pushing it at all, when the light came on, whenever i got the chance i'd fill up. and i drive like crazy and i down shift every stop light and every change i get cause i love the sound of my exhaust
so yeah i guess ill just keep driving the way i do and not slow down like a granny just to get 20-25 more miles to a tank,
cause i hear ppl saying here that they set cruise control at 55 mph on highway, wtf are you serious?? for what??!
i prefer to enjoy my ride and pay an extra 5-10 bucks when filling up.
