Default Moving Seat Rails back for more leg room?

Hey all

Just took delivery of my FM tC last night. Love it, except for it seems that the seat cannot be moved back far enough to my liking. There is loads of space behind the driver's seat, and I want to be able to use it.

Is there any way to create more leg room? Perhaps moving the seat rails back or some aftermarket set?

Hmmm, how tall are you? I'm 6'0" and I keep the seat a couple of clicks forward from the full-back position.

Also, make sure the seat is going as far back as possible. When I received my car back from the dealer last month after getting it serviced, they got something caught in one of the seat rails, preventing the seat from going more than halfway back. Unfortunately, it was after hours, so I had to drive home all crunched up until the next morning when I took it back to be fixed.

6' 2" 230

I'll check to see if there is anything stuck in the seat rails. I dont think there is, because the passenger and driver's seat go back to the same location (distance).

my BIL is like 6'4" and all leg (and arms like a monkey LOL), and he didn't even have to put the seat back that far... (still had a click or two to go)

Anything is possible, if you don't mind paying for it. Relocating the seat anchor points and/or rails has been done in many vehicles by sound quality competitors, as a way to improve sound quality by equalizing the pathlengths for kick panel mounted speakers. If you do it for additional legroom, you'll have an added advantage of potentially improved sound quality too.

I'm happy everyone is satisfied with the location of their seats.

How about this: how close is the back of your driver's seat to the front of the back seat? This is assuming that your seat is in a relatively upright position.

There's a 'pump' of sorts that will sink the seat down a bit and give you more room.

Yep, got that. Looking for a way to slide the seat back farther.

Make some brackets or have a machine shop build some for you. All you really need is 4 steel bars with 2 holes in each, all the same length, which will be however further you want the seat located rearward. Remove seat, bolt on bars, bolt seat to bars, done. There are other methods to accomplish the same, use your imagination.

that's still liable to not pass inspection. you'd probably hafto weld them to the floor to be totally safe.

unless you're lying through your teeth about your dimensions or haven't pulled the lever under the seat high enough to get all the way loose and back, there is no possible way that you couldn't fit in this car.

huh? I'm 6.0 and find the tc is short on legroom, but the last thing i'd do is lower the seat. Raising it gives me more effective legroom as it lengthens the distance from my knee joint to the pedals.

You are aware that people of the same height can have vastly different torse/leg lengths, yes?

yes. I'm also aware that, while unfortunate and in the process of remedy, I currently excede his listed statistics by more than a little :p

Why would I lie? It seems like so many people think I'm giving them a personal insult when I say that there is something about the car that I don't find to be perfect.

How about this - Please let me know how much space there is from the back of the driver's seat (in a fairly upright position) to the front cushion of the back seat. On mine, it seems to be a little over a foot of space.

If it makes you feel any better I believe you.

Though my brother blows my mind he has a tc too and is 6'4" 260+ and he fits in it somehow. Just think of it this way it can always be worse

Default I agree...

I'm 5'10" and the lack of legroom is my biggest complaint about this car. Driving 2.5 hours a day, I often have to alternate my seating position due to pains in my legs from not having enough room to stretch out while I'm driving. It's a decent car for the money, but in all honesty I'm already considering trading her in for something bigger, safer, and more comfortable. An FJ Cruiser perhaps.

All things considered it's a great little car though. With the exception of the incessant whistling sound coming from the intake and the lack of legroom, I'd recommend the TC to anyone looking for an affordable bang for the buck!

I have to agree with him being 6' myself and having the seat all the way back and still seeing all that room back there makes me wonder why we are so cramped.

So with all the post above it seems like there is no easy remedy.
