The car is totaled.
Your insurance is going to sky-rocket.
I hope both parties are okay.

With that being said, ____ like this is the reason our car is so expensive to insure.

I Am an Insurance agent if you where not the person driving even if it was your car your rates should stay the same because its not on your record and if they do raise your rates just get a different Insurance company. When you get Insurance we only Pull up the person getting Insurance. So we only Pull your MVR so if you where not the person driving you will be fine. And like i said if your Insurance company raises your Rates just move to someone else.

depends on how thorough a job the insurance company does to check your history. agencies use different databases to check driving history. you're name will show up on the claim, not as the driver, but as the owner. so while your brother is not a rated driver on the policy, your name will show up in either the clu report, or the iso database for an insurable loss. it depends on how rooted and connected your insurance agency is.

those reports are not always accurate. case and point, one of my customers asked me to write a letter of experience for his daughter in relation to an insurable loss. his daughter was paying high premiums with nationwide because they said it shows she has an at fault claim in the last three years. I pulled up the loss, and the claim was for a vehicle that her father owned, and it was a claim for attempted vehicle theft. while parked at a 7-11, somebody smashed the back window and attempted to steal the car. the reason why nationwide thought she was involved in the loss, they both have the same first initial, and also, because it was a single party loss, we don't put down whether or not he is at fault because it was a theft attempt, not a collision loss with a liability investigation. so they'll assume the worse.

oh, and further more, when you apply for insurance, they'll see how many other driver licenses have the same home address, and your brother will send up a flag, so they might tell you that you have to exclude him from your policy, or charge you an arm and a leg, or refuse to insure you at all.
