Default Nearly Paid off RS3.0 or VW R32????

I've got a nicely modded RS3.0 with only 36k on it and I almost have it paid off. I just landed a nice job that will surely pan out in the long run BUT I've never been able to enjoy a paid off vehicle... On the other hand, I am no longer turbo so my car isn't exactly as quick as I'd like it to be. I may have spoiled myself by going to nearly 300 whp and then back to stock overnight lol. I don't want to go turbo again. Long story short, I have a chance to buy a 2008 VW R32. I'm in love with the car but it's more payments in the future. Just go and listen to a few youtube videos of the exhaust note on that car (especially with the magnaflow setup) and keep in mind it's AWD. Just having a tough time making a decision. Would appreciate input!

This is tough.
I really like your RS3, but I soft spot for VWs.
How much would the payment be, and for how long?

R32 has some SERIOUS potential. if it were me, id pay off the tc and keep it and look at getting the R32. that way you will have something to drive around while you are modding the VW (if thats your plan for it anyway)

Nah, I only need 1 vehicle. It's either going to be the VW or the TC. My payments would likely go down but worst case stay the same. Same goes for insurance. I would finance out another 5 years at purchase. I've got great credit and tons of equity in my car and use my own credit union for financing so I get good interest rates.

Overall, it's just a dilemma of buying another car (going through the process) and having a payment for more time or keeping what I have considering the TC isn't going to break anytime soon and isn't exactly a terrible car

You will LOVE the R32. But, if I were you, I would wait and find the MKIV (2004) style R32 rather then the MKV (2008 ) style. It's much better looking, and cheaper now

I completely agree about the exhaust note, I've driven both styles and they both sound amazing, I've never heard anything like it.

Something to note about the 2004 and the 2008 though, the 2004 only came in a 6 speed manual, and the 2008 only came in a 6speed DSG automatic.

Thats a tough decision, I get in the same situation every time I come back from waterfest (www.waterfest.net) R32's are way sick, love the new ones but I'm with rand0mher0 on the MKIV I think they look better. I tried trading in my Tc for a 04 R32 two years ago but would be upside down too much. R32's sound way sick too...

It depends on what you want out of the car. Looks wise, I think the rs3 wins hands down... The 08 r32 does nothing for me... But the earlier 04 style has SO much potential. If you want a "zippy" car, and you said you aren't gonna boost the tc again, go for the vw. I'm over the half way mark, and counting down til my rs3 is paid off. Then maybe i'll be able to afford some wheels and what not. But I didn't get my tc to mod, I just wanted a nice looking, dependable, reasonably priced car that got good mpgs. They just look so much better lowered with some rims.

^^ this is what kills the newer r32 for me... If i wanted to buy an automatic i would buy my grandmothers car. Not something that is supposed to be sporty. Regardless of if is DSG or not.

I say you should just pay off your tc and save up your tc payments every month after. When you have a decent some saved up, go car shopping. It's pointless having a turbo right now with the current gas prices especially since you will have to run a higher octane. Best of luck with your decision.

pay off your car and you'll enjoy having the extra $300+ (or whatever your payment is) in your pocket every month to spend on other stuff. my tC is paid off and sometimes I think about getting a new car, but the thought of a $300+ monthly payment discourages me. so if you're used to having a car payment, then keep doing it because you won't want monthly payments again after theyre gone LOL.

the MK5 R32 is auto only, plus it'll use more gas (it is a 3.2 V6), and you'll have to deal with VW's electrical gremlins. i used to own a MK3 GTI, B5 A4, and B5 Passat, and I spent more time/money on repairs/maintenance than mods. I'm sticking with japanese from now on.

the DSG's are terrible i worked at an audi stealership when those new DSG's were released and they had a lot of issues and complaints of hesitant shifting.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm still on the fence LOL. I just can't seem to tip one way or the other. I tend to only keep cars for 3 years or so anyways but I'm up for hanging on to the TC since it's a reliable platform. However the devil inside wants me to get something faster!!! GRRR!!

I don't mind the thought of a DSG transmission. I've driven quite a few VW's equipped with them. However I would prefer the euro 6 spd manual. Why does europe always get the cooler options??? bastards!

Brad I would say wait a little to get something better than the R32. It's not a bad platform but if you have success in your new field I say step up to an AMG or M series if you want real euro-muscle. Four door,v8,luxury interior and exterior,Rear Wheel drive,Good service plans. Preowned M's are affordable. Oh but the VW is AWD. Good luck on your choice bro.

The biggest reason I was considering the VW is because most have 45-60k on them for $20-22k. This one is going for 24k but only has 10k and it has navigation. Otherwise, I wouldn't really think twice but that exhaust is damn sexy sounding! I want a euro V8 or an inline 6. Maybe an IS-300?

^ IS300 could be a nice pick, but I agree with gun, if you have success with your new job, euro muscle is a beautiful thing and you can get that with either MB or BMW. I work at a bmw dealership and i gotta say that m3's are a blast to drive.

B6 (2002 - 2005) Audi S4. 8 cylinders of euro power :D

I've seen them going for 17k - 22k these days with decent mileage

The 335i is an awesome car, but they are known for their HPFP problems (fuel pump issues). but overall a great car, luxury, sleekness, boosted lol. i'm deff gonna look at one when i decide to get out of my tc...
