thats sounds pretty bs, someone just wanting to complain...
I think you'll need to know what local law limits db to, TRD shouldnt excede it though.
and CT may be special, but the only thing that should be illedal about aftermarket is emission standards, again TRD shouldn't excede that either ... it's CA legal for christ's sake, it's USA legal!
course ... if you rev your engine alot, that's another story ...

NOOOOO. Let me clarify please. I live in CT and my car is registered in CT. CT is different from CA. CA is different from Alabama, and Alabama is different from Maine. Each state has it's own regulations.
The TRD CAI is COMPLETELY 100% LEGAL in Connecticut.
The TRD Axleback exhaust is COMPLETELY 100% LEGAL in Connecticut.
Fight that big time!
CARB = california. It doesn't apply to us Connecticites.
TRD CAI is for off-road use in CA maybe, not in CT (and NY for that matter)
You are 100% right and 100% legal unless there is something that you're not telling us. The dealer will back you up as well. If you got it installed at the dealer and it IS illegal, the dealer will have to pay the ticket and will have to refund you your money and put the stock systems back on. I know b/c i've been there and went through this before I bought my TRD CAI that I no longer have (I sold it - needed the $$), but I asked all of these questions to the dealer.

I would take that to court being that it is a factory installed part(well kinda) I guess my point is that you can order it on the car as an accessory and therefore should have been passed through DOT standards. It should be legal in all 50 states. Not sure but I doubt they would be allowed to sell in at the dealership in Ct if it was illegal.
FIGHT IT

I live in NE CT and havent had a problem with my TRD exhaust.(only installed about 1 month) However, I do live in the sticks and alot of people here drive poorly maintained late 80's american pickup trucks that make my car sound quiet in comparison.
i would go to court and dispute it.

I had the same problem in Northern VA with a cop pulling me over for my exhaust. I didn't get a ticket, but he said I would continually get hassled. Officer told me it might be a good idea to get a letter from the dealer - well the dealer wanted nothing to do with this, so I called TRD direct and they sent me a letter that states the TRD exhaust is 100% legal in 50 states.

Have your vehicle tested at a state Referee Center. To make an appointment, call the Referee Scheduling Center at (800) 622-7733. Have the citation and vehicle registration with you when you call. The Center will tell you any fees that will need to be paid for the test.
STEP 3
The Referee will conduct an exhaust noise level test in accordance with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) standard J1169, May 1998, to determine if your vehicle's exhaust noise level exceeds the noise standard (95db).
If your vehicle meets the standard, the Referee will give you a "Certificate of Compliance." Take the certificate to the court (See Step 5).
If your vehicle does not meet the standard, the Referee will give you a report that lists the recorded decibel readings. Your vehicle must be repaired to meet the standard of not more than 95 decibels (See Step 4).
I think you will probably beat it , but they make you go through a lot of crap.
