haha.. i was in the same situation last summer.. even though i got the tC.. the XRS was fun to drive. it feels solid all around. the tC and the XRS are neck in neck in performance (tC has low end torque while the XRS has high end torque) but i think it just comes down to whether he wants a 4 door, or a 2 door. personally, it would be cool to own both

Rare? I see about 5 xrs corollas for every tC. Maybe even more than that.
Well I gess all the XRS's are in MN because I have yet to see one in SoCal, but I see tCs now everyday.

They are both cool cars by good manufacturers.
Who's the other manufacturer besides Toyota?

Well get whatever you want. I'm biased towards Corollas because I have a 93 Corolla in my family with 240K miles. It survived several accidents with over $11K in total repairs and its still going strong.

I never said there were two manufactures.

Best reaction to a tC by far: Japanese tourists doing triple-takes while I'm in the tourist section of our island. Those are priceless...especially when they get their cameras out and start taking pics of the car...so sweet. Hardly anyone gives a Corolla the once over these days...

I was torn between the tC and XRS as well...however a big reason for me to go with the tC over XRS was more get up and go and not having to get premium fuel.

The XRS will fly by a tC....once it gets going. It's the Celica GTS engine and tranny in it...it will move.

A pro about the XRS is that is definitely rare. They are only making so many per year, last year it was about 5000....and now with the Celica dead, I'm not sure if the Matrix nor the Corolla XRS will carry over to 2k6.

If you need a practical car, from Toyota, need 4-doors, and you still want to beat a tC, get a Matrix XRS. The Corolla shouldn't even be in the conversation!

Besides, the bodystyle will be changing soon.(Corolla).

The XRS also uses Premium gas.

The Celica GT-S Is pretty quick but the XRS isn't close to a GT-S even with the same engine. But if you are gonna buy a rolla, buy the XRS.

I can't fathom why this is even a question. Your friend is considering paying MORE for a Corolla vs a tC? That's ridiculous.

When I was shopping for a new car, the Corolla wasn't even on my radar screen. tC hands down, unless your friend is a grandma.

sorry if any one said this i am posting without reading teh thread just the title.

get the tC. The Corolla XRS is discontinued for a reason. That motor is very very fragile. I personally have warranted many of them at the dealership for valvetrain problems.
The only reason i would buy it over the tC is 4 doors, other than that tC. Much much better reliability and larger aftermarket. Plus US!

Tell him to get the tC. I do not like the Celica GT-S motor, there it didnt last long and the 2AZ is still being used.

As someone said, if you don't need 4 doors then get the tC.

Well, even though this kid probably already chose his car by now, i'll say it for the sake of talking. i'd consider the XRS, i mean, it is a sporty Corolla, it would be a great sleeper. Cops hardly see a Corolla and say

"if i watch long enough, he will do something stupid that i can pull him over for." like they do with the tC, i mean, hell, i got pulled over for 30 in a 25 in my tC, but if i was in a Corolla, the police wouldn't of even noticed me if i went by at 50.
