Default new car curse

my friends and i were talking about the fact that every person we've known with a new car has a mishap within the first year. i call it the new car curse and if you make it a year with out a problem you'll be safe, but chances are you wont. when i bought my first new car i had an accident (not my fault) before the first car payment was due.
another person i know had an accident the first day she bought her car...and it wasnt even insured
another friend didnt believe me about the cures but 10 months in to her new car her door was ripped off by a bus at the airport.
my neighbor's new suv was vandalized with in a week.
i also had a friend lose her job after buying a car and had to sell it back to the dealer.

and the cases go on and on...

so...what do you guys think of this new car curse theory? got any stories to share?

when i got my first car (5 years ago) the second week i had it i was behind a bigass suv at a light and couldn't see the ground ahead of me. when the light turned and the suv moved, i rolled behind it following and then BOOM.... my tire caught the edge of a police barricade that was laying on the ground and it flipped up and dented the hell out of my door with swiped scratches in the dent.. but its dead now so its ok

I honestly think that you just notice things more when your car is new. Also, when I bought my camry, someone rolled into the back of it in the first week I owned it, er...
Your car lives outside... what do you think youd look like if you had no shelter either?

Since I got my xB, I've been hit from behind twice, damaged front and rear lower bumpers, a cracked windsheild and two tickets.

Now that I've read this thread, it will happen to me...

Thanks a bunch.

j/k.

Happened to me once in prelude. Rear ended my Explorer 3 months into ownership. Only damage to Explorer was paint chips from my bumper. 3K damage to my car.

Hopefully the tC will be better.

I think it is just a matter of coincidence and statistics. If you drive, you are likely to be involved in an accident. The more you drive, the more your odds go up. My tC is my 14th new car purchase and I have only been involved in accidents with two of them in their first year. My RX-7 was side-swiped by a crazy old woman in a hurry to get from a wedding to the reception and insisted that she was not going to wait for the cops. It was 9 months old. My BMW 325is was involved in a "set-up" accident. I was stupid and did not see it coming. Once I was blocked in, it was a split second before the car in front of me slammed on their brakes in the middle of the freeway. Having better brakes than the beater in front of me, I almost stopped in time to miss them. A light tap that left no damage on that piece of crap did $4K worth of damage to my Bimmer. That car was 9 months old. OMIGOD, maybe I have the 9 month curse!
