Default Newbie wants cheap power

Hey all, I am not a know it all when it comes to power modifications. I would like info from you guys about easy and/or cheap ways to boost HP (please no supercharger talk). I have the aem intake and trd exhaust being installed from the dealer.

I have read a lot about changing out air filters and removing intake resonnators, etc. I would like to hear what your opions on these and any other mods are.

i have one on my car... its a full race header, takes off both cats, it does negate warranty... BUT the power gain is like day and night... redline comes out of nowhere and pulls like a mother hehe... weapon r will have it for sale in about late feb. to march... we will have my car dyno'd with the prototype on saturday...

if you cant wait... DC sports has a header for 300... its carb legal supposedly... and should give u few extra ponies... i suggest investing in the TRD springs and sway bar... they can be had for real cheap now a days... i bought them when they were at full price... check out TRDsparks.com good luck hope this helps

Yes thanks this is a good start, I was considering sway bar and springs. Keep them coming, the more options the better.

Just remember if you get this cinccycat, take it off and put the stock one on before you get it inspected. It's just a smidge illegal since it takes off the cats.

ya it is... hehe all good though, the amount of power i get vs. having to re-install it for smog is way worth it... but i did state it negates warranty... and wont be street legal... hence "full race header"

Well exhaust and intake is basic.

How about stuff like injectors, fuel pump, ignition, plugs, wires, etc. I don't know if these things do much to boost power...anyone? Does that screw w/ the software - or does the software adapt to it and make it a useless mod?

If it was a VW you could just "chip" it.

i'm not entirely sure but i think the TRD exhaust is just axle-back. if i were you i'd get something aftermarket that will give you more power. as of right now the only one i know of is the DC sports cat back, but i'm sure there will be more in the next few months.

if i am wrong about any of this please correct me i'm still somewhat of a newbie when it comes to this sort of thing

yeah the trd exhaust is a axle-back. i know dc sports and greddy are working on full cat backs. i'm not sure if they're available yet.

there is no cheap mod. everything costs $$$$. and i highly suggest staying away from the cheapo' speed mods from ebay. thats definately a no no.

The exhaust at my local dealership, the option for the tC, is listed as a full borla cat-back system.

The DC header and exhaust do appear to be available.

I just ordered the TRD suspension parts from McGeorge in Richmond VA. Shocks, struts, springs, and sway bar for 480 shipped to anywhere in contiguous states. Damn good deal if you ask me...

http://www.mcgeorgeparts.com/

Because I am waiting for the SC I am probably going to wait to see what intake comes with it. Meanwhile I took off the resonator and capped it with a PVC cap from home depot (57 cents), dropped in a K&N filter (i think it was for a 2003 corolla, $55), and replaced the weenie Jap horns with Flamm freeway blasters.

It makes the car growl a little more under WOT. More hp? I can tell there is a little more there. For under sixty bucks you can't beat it.

I talked to someone at scion.com and asked about the gain in hp that comes with the trd exhaust option... he said that "there is no reported gain in hp". so pretty much you paid for the sound and the name ): don't feel bad. i did it too. so very soon i'll be cutting my losses and getting a new exhast.

The dealer here said it is about a 5 HP gain with the trd exhaust, and 5 HP gain from the aem intake, and if you get both then together you get an extra 5HP, so it is like 15 total with intake and exhaust.

I'll agree with the 5 hp gain from the aem intake... but the TRD exhaust doesn't give you any significant power gain, maybe 2 or 3 hp.
