newest scion news V6 tC possibility
My father is currently and has been for the last 25 years been working for Toyota. He is a Finance Manager at a Dealership here in Virginia. This information is coming from him as second hand info being that I didnt actually hear it myself so take it for what you want. ok ... Well recently there was a Scion Rep at the dealership talking about how the sales have been and future direction of the scion line.. ok now to the good part.. many dealers are reporting that the customer base has been very happy with the cars with the exception of basically 2 key points..
1) Lack of avalible Model Grades ie. Corolla, corolla S and corolla XRS ect.. packages basically.
2) Lack of power/drivetrain options.
So this brings me staight to the point so I dont make you read a bunch of ____.. Basically this ... From the Rep.. the Word at Scion is that they are VERY VERY seriously considering/developing a tC with the 245hp V6 found in the current 4Runners and Tacomas! This powertrain option could also transfer over to the xA and xB line as well with the acception that the "upgraded engine" option would more then likely not be the same V6
point 2* optional trim levels.. hmmm sure , i dont care really. Im in it for the power more then the thought of leather interior. plus the price is right. so trim grades is cool i guess..
Anyhow.. thats what Ive been told and I could very well see that happening.. Take it for what u want. but Its the hot rumor at scion/toyota.. projected release within a year.
ps the Rep touched upon the fact the Super Charger Will be released. I dont know what the hold up is though sorry...

I seriously doubt the v6, Personally i would much rather have a larger displacement v6 than the supercharger. But they would have to do a lot to the tC to fit a v6 in the engine bay. the Camry v6 won't fit with out some pretty major modifications involving the firewall and uni-body. Wishful thinking at its finest i say.

2nd point
its Toyota. Im sure they can make the mods they need to do it. I dont agree with it being a V6 out of a RWD/4WD plat in to a F/F so it would more then likely be a camry or avalon base maybe. But anyhow. Thats just what Ive been told and he wouldnt lie. Remember this is all just a Consideration not a FACT. just what they rep was talking about in the meeting

the tacoma 4Runner V6 is a RWD/4WD 4.0 liter V6 with massive amounts of torque. in a 4Runner it posts about 15mpg on average. that is the LAST engine they will put in a tC aside from their 4.7L V8. if they were to put in a V6 for the TC, it'll more than likely be the 3.0 V6 found in the V6 Camry. (IF they do a V6 tC) putting in a 4.0L V6 that doesn't even match the drivetrain of the car...is something Toyota won't do. Toyota didn't rise to the second largest manufacturer in the world by developing cars that make absolutely no sense. and this idea? a SUV/Truck engine in a "budget" youth-oriented brand is completely bonkers.

i think the whole trim level is dumb...i like scion b/c it's straight up and to the point. none of that trim level b/s. i think the car should be kept at a single trim level with options like and engine upgrade or a tranny upgrade. think about it too, a 245 v6 is not gonna be sitting at 16.5K

While I am in favor of a bigger 4-banger in the xA and xB, the Scion philosophy of value-oriented vehicles would be thrown out the window if these rumors were to actualize. I could care less if there were V6 Scions, and I wouldn't run out to trade my baby (tC) in for a V6. Why is a V6 in a Scion necessary?
Stick with what you have, and if you feel like you are lacking power, modify.

yeah but who ever thought a VW would ever cost over 60k?
Scion is having enough problems releasing what they have been bragging about for so long, I highly doubt they will put a v6 anytime soon.
Now like I have said in the past.... a TRD Turbo.... the thought makes me all warm and fuzzy inside...

Besides the fact it would go against everything scion is about (making trendy, affordable cars for a age bracket that toyota was lacking) this would jump production costs. Which in turn would make a tC into a 20+ base model (stock without oem upgrades) and the weight of the v6 and parts to mod engine bay and drive train over the H4 (horizontal 4 cylinder) would be pushing a already heavy (compared to competiton) sport coupe. What they should do is give these brillant thinkers a day off save the freggin money to get the damn trd supercharger done and in our cars.
Sorry i went hyphen crazy... i have problems.

As long as we're dreaming....
I would like to see a V-6 option, and while we're at it, make it AWD, or at least RWD. Throw in a 6-speed too, and a Super Charger option for the 4-banger (220hp) and the V-6 (300hp).
Oh yeah, and keep the price under $25,000.oo (SC V-6).

And while you're at it, give me a Geo Metro v6... Scion is built on being different(aka Japanese imports) Let's all _____ to Toyota and kill the Scion line, then they will all turn back into Toyotas, Yay. I want as many Japanese models I can get, please don't screw it up because your car is too slow. If you want a faster car...buy a faster car from somebody else or at least be happy with the Scion you bought. And don't just buy a car because it "looks cool"....that will wear of soon after.

It depends on how much the new eclipse bites into the tC sales. I wouldn't be surprised if Mitsu tries to jump on scion's market with the new eclipse. The base 06 eclipse has a 162hp 2.4L I4, and a 3.8L V6 option that I think tops out at 250ish. Would Mitsubishi try to attack the tC buyers with aggressive financing on a base Eclipse?
I think part of Scions future depends on what other vehicles that come out and vie for their market share. Toyota has been smart for over 50 years, so it will be interesting to see.

i thought the whole idea with scion was to not have trim levels. everyone buys pretty much the same blank canvas for whatever personalization you want. the idea of having trim levels is weak.
also... why would they bring a v6 when it only takes a lil tuning and a supercharger/turbocharger to bring the tC up to 245hp.
It all seems a little far fetched to me.
