I never open the moonroof completely on h'way. Now, I sometimes hit the button once to bring the back of the moonroof up. Any problems in doing that??

But much too noisy to fully open when traveling at 70MPH.......

I agree. It is very noisy. What surprises me is that it is noisier than my MR2 is with the t-tops off.

As far as not having the sunroof open at highway speeds...is this normal for other cars as well? I've never heard of that.

Where in the manual does it say not to drive at highway speeds with the moonroof open? I just read the moonroof section and I guess I missed it?

Yeah I Gotta say that "full" usage of the moonroof/sunroof is a primary selling point for the tC. Definitely a major factor in my decision to buy one. If the moonroof wasn't meant to operate under ANY part of normal driving conditions they wouldn't have put it on the car. (liability issues).

Really hope this turns out good. Coudln't imagine the tC with a regular roof .
Anyone photoshop a pic of a tC with a metal roof?

PERSONALLY, I HAVEN'T HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR ITSELF. I HAVE GONE ON ROADTRIPS FROM CHICAGO TO NEWYORK AND BACK IN THE SUMMER GOING ABOUT 75-80 MPH WITH THE SUNROOF OPEN, AND IT HASN'T SHATTERED. THATS ABOUT 1000 MILES THERE AND 1000 MILES BACK WITH THE SUNROOF OPEN, FLYING OF THE FREEWAY AND NO SHATTERING GLASS. SHOULD I KNOCK ON WOOD? I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED ON ANY RESULTS.[/list]
DOOD, stop typing in all caps. It's rude. Besides that it just looks ugly. This is like the fourth post I've seen from you typing in all caps. Do you write letters in all caps? Do you write a resume in all caps? Then why the hell do you think writing in all caps on an internet forum is acceptable? I bet you use AOL too don't you?

Actually, the AEM CAI is showing as a discontinued part in our parts department. The explanation that we got is the AEM has been unable to meet demand for Toyota's parts department, so they discontinued the part. I tried to order one last week, and no joy.

The sales people from the dealership I bought from just went to the facility in Japan last week to learn about accessories, upcoming models, etc. They were informed that the CAI and the SC are scheduled for release this fall. Not betting anything on it, but that is what they were told.

As for the sunroof issue... Even though the driver's manual states not to drive above those speeds indicated with the sunroof open, the company is still liabile if you get into an accident as a result of this problem. It creates an "unsafe" driving situation for the consumer and the part should either be recalled or replaced.

Hope no one gets into an accident over this problem, lawsuits will appear...javascript:emoticon('')

I thought the point of the sunroof coming back 3/4 was because it stops at the point where the arms are going to bring the wind deflector down. That point is when the sunroof is closed the most, but keeps the wind deflector all the way up.

I believe the proper "recal" fix for this would be a replacement made of plastic. That piece, the deflector, does not need to be made of glass. If I have read the thread correct, it is this deflector they are investigating.

... plastic probably isn't what the solution would be. Although it would be the cheapest fix, so who knows. However, feasibly they could simply reinforce the glass by putting aluminum or steel under the glass (that's assuming the problem is the air resistance is what is causing the wind deflector shattering), in order to reinforce it. Most likely the glass is too thin and when moving at too high a speed the wind is enough to flex the glass to the point of breaking. In this case, as I said, reinforcement, rather than plastic replacement, would be a better alternative for owners. I personally don't want some black plastic peice in the place of my glass, nor some plexy glass that'll scratch to hell.

Yeah here is what it says.

Defect Summary

Make: TOYOTA
Model: SCION TC
Type: PASSENGER CAR
Year: 2005
NHTSA Action Number: PE05021
Summary:
THE TOYOTA SCION TC MOON ROOF ASSEMBLY INCLUDES A GLASS WIND DEFLECTOR AT THE FORWARD EDGE THAT PIVOTS UPWARD WHEN THE ROOF PANEL IS RETRACTED. CONSUMERS HAVE COMPLAINED THAT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE WIND DEFLECTOR MAY SHATTER WITHOUT WARNING. CATASTROPHIC BREAKAGE OF THE WIND DEFLECTOR MAY STARTLE THE DRIVER AND THE GLASS FRAGMENTS FALL ONTO THE DRIVER. A PRELIMINARY EVALUATION HAS BEEN OPENED.

I dont think they will want to use plastic. They will more then likley make or do something with a new piece of glass, because if they change it to plasitic that will remove their saying of having an "All Glass Roof"
