Most likely the glass is too thin and when moving at too high a speed the wind is enough to flex the glass to the point of breaking. In this case, as I said, reinforcement, rather than plastic replacement, would be a better alternative for owners. I personally don't want some black plastic peice in the place of my glass, nor some plexy glass that'll scratch to hell.

I dont think they will want to use plastic. They will more then likley make or do something with a new piece of glass, because if they change it to plasitic that will remove their saying of having an "All Glass Roof"
I know, that's exactly what I said, did you read what I said?

HAHAH are you serious?

C'mon, I don't think they would fix it with something that can SHATTER. So it will probably be a piece of plastic, fiberglass, composite, or metal. Anything other than shatterable GLASS.

Hahahahahaha, still laughing.

remember, they can still say GLASSTOP, GLASS ROOF etc. I think Safety is more of a concern than a marketing phrase.

All I could find in my manual regarding driving with the sunroof open was that you shouldn't drive with it all the way open, but instead leave it at the point where the auto-open stops. Also, it says that doing so will prevent "wind throb."

I like to drive with my sunroof open on the freeway.

Did you notice on the NHTSA website it says

NHTSA Action Number : PE05021 NHTSA Recall Campaign Number : N/A
Make : TOYOTA Model: SCION TC
Manufacturer : TOYOTA MOTOR NORTH AMERICA, INC[/b]. Year : 2005
Component : VISIBILITY:SUN ROOF ASSEMBLY
Date Investigation Opened : April 28, 2005
Date Investigation Closed : Open

I thought tC was made in Japan

It is, but Toyota does have a North American division which would be responsible for overseeing this issue. If they didn't, you would have to call Japan to get customer service.

There were a few replies with mention of warranty coverage on the deflector shattering issue. I honestly think a lot of people will run into problems with dealerships putting the blame on the drivers (ie. rocks/pebbles, bad driving). Its gonna be such a hassle having to explain to the dealer that it just "mysteriously" shattered on its own.

YES - same problem, if it is a problem. it doesn't bother me too much.

It's not a problem, it's a safety feature. My Civic Si did the same thing.

The sales people from the dealership I bought from just went to the facility in Japan last week to learn about accessories, upcoming models, etc. They were informed that the CAI and the SC are scheduled for release this fall. Not betting anything on it, but that is what they were told.
EXACTLY what I heard.

Well if it infact does turn out to be a problem..i am sure they will work out an alternative solution for the wind deflector. Once the resolution has been made i am sure they will issue a recall for all scion tC's to have the part changed out no cost to us. The new tC's i am sure will have the new replacement part already installed...which makes me think if they will push back the release date of the 06's until this issue is resolved so they dont have to recall those aswell.

But i do believe they would have to recall the tC for this issue because it's better to have a recall then a lawsuit.

I was driving, uh, slightly above the speed limit with the sunroof all the way open. something caught my eye and the back of the sunroof was flexing wildly, probably 5-6" up and down movement. I immediately closed the sunroof and decided that if I'm going to drive that fast that I'll keep the sunroof either closed or open slightly. kinda creepy.

Whatever they decide to do , they will do it very soon . Its in their intrest to fix up the problem now and not when they have a ton more cars on the road making it more expensive for them.

Correct, they only worry about safety issues.
