basically, you just need to check your fliuds, rotate your tires, and change your oil with this car, oh, and wiper blades, brake pads, and bulbs too

you can pick it up the air filter at the parts department at the nearest toyota dealership

How many miles do you have on your car?

The air filter should be changed every 15000 miles or so and can be purchased at any automotive store.

Ohh and next time use the button located up at the top.

Take a look at, and clean your MAF sensor too. Simple to do.

Stock filter is probably Denso.

Get a Napa Gold filter part number: 6834

Stay away from fram.

You have to remove the glove-box to access the Cabin Filter, which is not your air filter. The air filter is in the engine compartment, it's a big black box with metal clips.

Cabin filter filters air that... you guessed it, enters the cabin, and that has a different part number. Many people here, myself included make our own cabin filters by cutting them to size from 3m furnace filters.

meh... The fram toughguard ones are nice, but I don't really trust the fram brand for parts on my car.

Their oil filters are horrible that's for sure.

Unlatch the two clips on the drivers side of the box, and lift it up to unhook the plastic hooks on the right side.. that's all.

how often do you change the cabin filter?

Btw, if you want to go with a K&N or TRD drop in air filter, the intervals are longers and you don't toss it, you just clean it and reuse it. I think its guaranteed for 1 million miles and it would possibly get you 1 or 2 more hp.

I change my cabin filter every time I change my oil, it's easier for me to just do everything at once.

As for k&n filters, the gains in power are so small, if any.. it's not worth risking dirt entering your engine. k&n filters have increased flow, well that's going to result in more dirt getting by than normal. Look it up.

Additionally, your MAF sensor will get fouled if you don't re-oil the filter correctly and oil gets on the sensor.

Stick with quality paper filters like Napa Golds.

Well its a toss-up. There have been sooo many debates over the drop-in filters. Personally, I think K&N makes a nice product there, and i'm on the side that its not sending excess dirt into the engine. There is more surface area on the filter which means more air flow, but not bigger holes for the air to pass through. I asked my physics professor over at school...I brought him the two and thats what he told me (in short). But yea, you have to be careful when reoiling it...make sure to do it right!

Why do you change your cabin filter at every oil change? Isn't that a bit much? I mean, I don't know the exact interval, but that sounds like a lot. Unless you're using amsoil thats rated at 25K per oil change! lol Is the cabin filter really that easy to get to? (i've never changed mine yet after 25K)

I suppose it is a bit much to change it as often as I do.. I change my oil 3k-4k (castrol syntec 5w-20), and I cut my own cabin filters so cost isn't much of an issue.. Believe it or not, they get black pretty fast!
I live in NJ and our air quality isn't the greatest, especially when I'm driving up in North Jersey to go to work.

I bought a k&n filter for the tC, and it's sitting in my garage unopened because after reading some negative things about them, I changed my mind. I plan on running this thing over 200k, and with an engine like ours it is very possible.. knock on wood. To me that little bit of gain isn't worth it.

Ahh, well if its so cheap to do, then no harm done! It's good to know how fast they get dirty though. I'm not far from you, NY/CT. I don't consider the air quality to be all that bad here, but its not great in the city. I change my oil every 5K using mobil1 synthetic, and I planned on changing the cabin filter every 15K, but it sounds like 10K may be worthwhile. I'll have to see how it looks at 10k.

But yea, with the drop-in filters, its hard to say. There are so many debates, but there are valid arguments on both sides. I probably wouldn't use it if I were trying to do something ridiculous like 15K intervals between oil changes, but I figure that I use a good filter in mobil1 and I change the oil at 5K, it can't be doing to much - but thats just my rationale. I can respect being hesitant about it.

Thanks for the info on the cabin filters...i'm going to check mine tomorrow! (its been in for 25K yikes!)
