I cannot believe people use the dealership for leather installations........

I had my leather/suede installed in like 4 hours.

FOUR FREAKING HOURS!

Now I just don't get the 9 day thing... That's totally absurd.

Leather will last more than a couple of years if it's quality and cared for.

I still have my OEM cloth at home... Just in case.

For ANYONE considering ordering leather through their DEALERSHIP...

DONT DO IT!

Already we see Longo has unfavorable reviews, the guy who started this thread has had to have it done TWICE and no praise for his dealership....

It's a pattern. PLUS, the dealer usually has OEM leather to work with. You'll want to work with premium leathers. OEM Leather is a stamped leather that lacks the richness of premium leather. It's processed to be stiffer, the options are fewer, and it feels like plastic compared to premiums.

Good Luck everyone!

it really should not take more then 1 day. Also, was that 100% leather or just the front being leather?

100% leather attached to foam.

I've walked through the entire process at Katzkin. From delivery of the REAMS upon REAMS of leather to the final stitch.

That's not quite true.

It's 99% likely that your dealer won't be doing the actual leather install. Find out who they use and then research the installer. It won't help you to refuse "dealer installed leather" and then turn around and take it to the same place the dealer would have.

My dealer uses the only Katzkin approved installer in my area, so it really didn't make much sense to look any further. It was probably about $100 more than if I'd taken it in myself, but I got the use of a rental car for three days while I waited for the install.

I was also going to mention that. You should definitely shop around first if you can.

The only benefit of going through your dealer is the fact that you can add the cost into your payments.

The other benefit being we take care of it for you. If something goes wrong like a lameass leather install (never happened here) then we fix the problem instead of you as some random guy who's only going to make 1 purchase from them ever. We have a little bit more swing and essentially "own" any problem you might have.

And whoever said we farm it out usually is correct, I'm sure somewhere there's a dealer that does their own installs but everyone's I've ever known goes to a local shop, sometimes only catering to dealerships. blah blah blah

At Ford thats what we do...same with tinting usually....we shop around..usually using someone we like..hehe (i.e. expensive for the customer but cheap for Ford)...hehe

well, you should shop around for sure...

Same goes for tint... avoid paying your dealer for a tint job at most all cost.

Go to THEIR preffered tint shop and get it for almost less than 1/2 the price the dealer will gouge you for.

Example...
GALPIN Sales in SoCal...
TINT on a 8 window wagon = $450 (we bargined for a free tint job) but took our other cars to the tint shop... anyhow, they charge the dealer $130 for the 8 window job.
So we took our other cars there...
Dealer Quote on a 5 Window = $380
Tint Guy Price $120

The part about OWNING any problems is Dealerspeak to snake a few $ out from potential buyers... IMO

When you choose an installer, go with your choice... that installer OWNS any problem. DUH.

For anyone choosing a leather option, call Katzkin for a list of their approved installers... and get quotes.
Buy the leather kits direct from Katzkin if you can.

You will save $.
