Prestone Fuel Injector Cleaner
Anyone familiar with this product? I'm thinking about using it but I don't want to hurt anything. I have about 2700miles on my tC. I want to keep ahead of my maintenance.

It MAY help a tiny bit if used every now and then by helping to keep it clean. But really I have never seen one bit of advantage from any of those types of cleaners.
Just drive it normal with no additives for about 40 - 50k and then run BG44K through it. It is the only cleaner I know that actually cleans much besides seafoam, but I think the BG is much better unless you have some serious deposits causing issues with the car. BG has to be purchased from a distributor, but Toyota uses it so you can get it at most dealers as far as I know. Besides my experience with it, my father (who is skeptic #1 of mechanic in a bottle) loves it and sells it, and he has been a mechanic for about 40 years. I know others with a ton of experience who will also say the same thing. It runs 20 - 30 bucks a can usually, but as mentioned you only need to use it once in a while after miles have piled on.

Here is a link to find who sells it in your area. But I think most Toyota dealers do, and use it for the scheduled maintenance fuel system cleaning.

It is my understanding that Seafoam is better for removing carbon buildup, but mainly if you use it through the intake. The reason is simply that it steams the carbon deposits off. People have done the same thing with water. Thats right, water right into a vacuum line Believe it or not a small amount of water will NOT destroy your engine. However, if you dont know what you are doing, you can destroy the engine that way, so using seafoam per its directions is safer for the average joe :D
But, besides that, I believe BG is better for removing varnish and for removing crud for the injectors.
This is all just from what I have gathered, because it is hard to find definite answers on it. I have used seafoam before and it worked well. I have used BG multiple times on not so old cars that just had some poor performance (most likely due to injection components being dirty) and it worked wonders. So both can be a good choice and neither is needed all the time.
