protect bumpers from careless parkers?

I'm telling you it doesn't matter where you park, the biggest piece of crap on the lot will find you. I am a store manager and I have a huge lot. I was the only one there on a Saturday after we closed. I parked way out there! Some a-hole in a crewcab dodge parks beside me and comes to the door of the store and asks me If I would open up for him... I asked him why he had to park next to me when there was a slot right next to the door. He got ____ed and left. It makes you wonder whether or not his parents parked the same way . I think they are taught at birth to do this.

update:
Today I learned two things about incidents like this:
a. you gotta see them nail your car
or
b. they have to admit fault.
At the cop shop:
It didnt matter that their paint was on my car. Or that they admitted to being parked there. Or that the screws and the turned out corner of their license plate measured the same height as the marks on my car.
Essentially, I'm S.O.L.... Eh, write that one off to experience I guess. Time to find an apartment with a driveway.
Think the clear guards on this site are too noticable?

yeah parking out there doesn't really help... and if you can park within 5 minutes of your destination in NY... consider yourself lucky.
Actually you don't need to see or for them to admit fault... what you need is photos... and preferably a police report...
it helps greatly if you didn't move your car... the catch-22 being... if you don't move the car, how can you tell it was damaged.
its best if you do it this way..
take photo of the cars touching
get witnesses... non-partial ones are best... extremely hard...
take photos of the cars apart...
take photos of damaged area...
if you are sure there is damage.. call the police before moving the cars apart. if you already moved it apart, check the damage area.. decide if the damage is worth callling the police over (the problem is usually its not... and if you call sometimes the cops will b*tch about getting called out when "real" crimes are going on, i don't disagree either... but what can you do).
get the plates, VIN, make, model, color of the other vehicle... you can call your insurance company and they'll be able to look up the owner and their insurance company for you.
call that place and file a claim...
or wait for the owner
and get the info from him...
but really unless the owner is an honest person (some are)... you are in for a fight.
you can also sue in small claims if you want to take the trouble... especially with the gathered evidence.
This is all if you don't decide to just vandalize the loser's car and leave...
