maximus - I'm trying to work out something with DEPO so we can get projectors for the tC so you guys don't have to go to such great lengths to use HIDs. This is what we do for the VWs, Audis, BMWs, etc that we outfit with HIDs. I think all cars should have HID - it's safer, period.

Thanks for the info!

If I remember correctly, the first few HID equipped cars on the market were a cause for concern because of the glare issue. If you want to say all cars equipped with factory HIDs are better, you would be lying to yourself.

This is true, but also realize that Toyota Prius's, Lexus's, Cadillac Escalades, Acuras, etc do NOT use Projectors - they use a bulb shield. The reason I made this post is that I have seen the TC's and they do have a bulb shield, but it is not nearly the same shape, so it doesn't help us

See, you can cut off halogen's too (and they do - look at the BMW 5 Series for example), it serves the same function. This is great for the aftermarket crowd, because on cars like a 5 series or a z4, we just toss in some HIDs and there is already a cutoff from the factory

Shame this isn't the case for scions, though

Not all of this information is true or even remotely accurate.

"Glare" as defined by pictures can be made via normal projectors or non projectors, stock D2S or non-Stock H7 retrofit inside projectors or non projectors.

"Output" as defined by pictures is wholy inaccurate as well.

"Pattern" is more accurate, but also difficult to show on pictures.

Finally, wiring is NOT AN ISSUE.
As long as you provide 12V and your voltage regulator on your alternator isn't from a 63 Dodge, you'll be fine.

Putting an HID kit into your headlights existing, doesn't produce the glare you think it does:

this picture proves that angel eyes even look like they have glare:

Sure looks pretty clean.

No one is disputing that projectors are the best of all worlds, but when you don't have a lot to spend....

Look at it this way... you're putting HID (High Intensity Discharge) bulbs in a headlight system designed for halogen light output. Of course there is going to be a problem. If there isn't a proper (legal) cut off then it's going to cause more glare, which is a danger to other drivers. There is a reason why the NHSTA has enacted these laws prohibiting the use of these HID kits. It is a safety issue.

NHTSA did not enact new laws to control HID kits. They stepped up enforcement against companies that produce, sell or distribute lighting systems that do not meet FMVSS 108 standards that have been in place for years. HID kits don't meet them, so NHTSA has been going after companies who are making them available to consumers.

I'm going to talk to some of my guys and see if we can't at least offer a "retrofit package" with the projectors, wiring, HIDs, and instructions.... what do you guys think?

Your company was one of the ones investigated by the NHTSA so you are not the most unbiased of sources.

Of course it does. To think otherwise demostrates that you have no idea how headlamp optics work.

If you don't think so, I would like to see you repudiate every single one of this guy's points with something more than angel eye headlamp pictures: http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...nversions.html

It sickens me to see that you are still advocating an obviously unsafe practice even after the NHTSA investigation. Just goes to show that some companies place profit over the safety of others.

check out hidretro.com
i was quoted 800 to install 3-series bixenon projectors, tint the sidemarker, and install ddes.

if you can offer a whole a complete headlight swap with pnp adapters, ddes and hid already wired it would sell well.

hopefully matt from umnizta can do what he did for my m3 to my scion
