Default rattling coming from where?

after dropping my sister off to school today, i started hearing rattling sounds coming from the passenger side. i dont know how the hell it started to rattle. everytime i accelerate hard it rattles and also on bumps it rattles. any suggestions from where its coming from?
i think it may be the passengers side window but i doubt it.

LOL where is the rattle coming from? That is the million dollar tC question. Sorry dude...but its a big mystery to all tC owners. You just cant locate them. For me, all I know is my rattle is coming from the back somewhere. And my plastic center area makes a bunch of little clicking, creaking noises. They come from all directions, and sometimes change locations. Fun aint it?

Get the stupid things out of the way first:

1. make sure CD case is not in side door
2. make sure door is close securely
3. make sure window is shut all the way
4. make sure the sunroof is opened/closed properly
5. make sure sun shade is closed securely
6. make sure nothing is in arm rest compartment
7. make sure nothing is in glove compartment.

If it still rattles and it is bothersome, then take to dealer and have mechanic sit on passenger side while you drive.

Some of the known tC rattles are:
1. sun/moonroof
2. hatch
3. radio cover
4. door (you can do a search to see if a thread already exists for this rattle)

Good luck.

Kevin

Oh wait, you said it sounds like its coming from the passenger side window. I had the same thing happen, and it turned out to be the passenger side seat belt connector hitting against that plastic lever that moves the front seat forward to let rear passengers in. It only does it if your seat is positioned a certain way. Try pushing your passenger side seat all the way back and recline it so the two cant hit each other. Seriously, that may solve your problems.

Goodluck!

i have a rattle that i noticed was coming from the hatch, and it got worse as people sat in my car. i took it to the dealer and they said the plastic warped because the car was on the lot for a while since i had it reserved, and the struts were worn. they're going to replace both for me.

this has been on couple of forums...if it sounds like it's from the rear hatch then the TSB # is BO 009-05. I called scion corp. and they suggested that I call the dealer i am planning to go to first to check if they had parts...i pretty much narrowed down the location to the rear hatch on my car so gonna take it in sometime this week. hope this helps.

I had that before..and it also turned out to be the seat belt hitting against the **** thingy. I just moved it out of the way and it stopped rattling.

No apparantly it's something to do with the rear strut or something. In my case it was a rattling tool box...OOPS!

i finally found the rattle in the roof.. it was the arms that lift the wind deflector into place.. too much play in one of the arms.. i remember a guy here fixed it with shims.. might ask the dealer to try that.. but if it's fully open doesn't happen..
