Is that true>> about Doc I's SS???>> The 50% reduction in shifting??? that seems crazy!!! The highest I've seen is 35% from TWM Stage 2 SS and the TWM is pretty expensive! Could Doc I make me a Custom SS with a 2" drop from stock and 60% reduction in shifting?

why do you all like such low shift *****? Shifter should be high, like roadsters, lotus' miatas, mr2's etc. take your hand off the steering wheel slam a gear and right back on, not reach down on the floor to shift. AND IF YOU DRIVE WITH YOUR HAND ON THE STICK you cant be driving that fast.
trd is the way to go in my opinion. especially with that nice shift ***.

No, the shifter should be where it is comfortable for the driver. The drop is not too far on this car and is perfectly comfortable for me. The way our car is made, I dont have to reach too far to get to the shifter. If it is to the point that you are shifting so fast you need the shifter closer than that, then you are getting more serious than you should in a fwd 4 banger.

I am not sure if he can make one lower or shorter shifting, but I am guessing the shift effort would get uncomfortable at that point. It is perfect the way it is now IMO.

i agree. i would rather have a long shift throw then some of those notchy feeling short throws outther. sometimes i do wish it was a little higher like my mr2, but then as you stated its not rwd, or rear engine for that matter.

Regarding how much to drop a shifter, I agree with both engifineer and redwar1441 on some points. Yes, your shifter should at a comfortable height, yet it shouldn't be so low you lose leverage and increase shift effort, which I see as a common problem. One size doesn't fit all, and you have to take into account shift **** placement before deciding on the drop. I installed a 2.25 drop to compensate for the cage bushings and a specific aftermarket shift **** to give me a final drop of about 0.75"-1". However, before installing my aftermarket shift ****, I used the stock **** for a few days and it sucked; the position was too low and took much effort. Once I installed the **** the shifter height was set for, everything was right.

You can order a 0.5 to 3" drop with about a 50% throw reduction.

"GearSwitcher" is Doc I's name for his SS, and that's what mine looks like installed. Other than that, it looks similar to the one on the left:

...only about an inch shorter.
