Default Rev Matching with the tC..

I'm learning to rev match right now, and I kind of get the hang of it. My question is about how high should I rev to match each gear?
Assuming I'm at the right speed of course I usually do 5th-4th at 3k rpm and 4th-3rd and 2.5k rpm. I cant get 3rd-2nd at all.

Any suggestions?

uhhh..... revs depend on what speed your going at.

i don't understand what you are saying by 5-4th at 3k rpm, and 4-3 at 2.5k rpm....
are you talking about you revving 3k higher for when your downshifting from 5th to 4th?

it's kinda hard to explain very well... but after driving for a while... you get a feel for what rpm the car should be in at what speed.... i doubt anyone's perfect.. but you get the hang of it.

and dropping from 3rd to 2nd gear will require you to rev up relatively higher than going from 5-4th or 4-3rd.

yeah what he said, its not a set number +- to rev to in order to smoothly rev match..

what you need to do is rev to the rps that you would be in if you were in that gear already...

say downshifting from 5th to 4th @ 60 mph and you might want to rev to 3.5k-4k depending on if your accelerating or decelerating (thats close to 60 in 4th right? dunno havent driven a tc in 8 mo's)

then pop clutch (just a bit slower then actually poppin it)... after a while you get a feel for that perfect 'stab' at the pedal and it comes second nature

Just blip it and release the clutch at a semi-slow pace. Works for me. A general rule of thumb is 1k of rpm per gear downshifting.

Not unless you really suck. I pretty much learned how to drive a stick on this car.

no, its actually better than just jamming it in whatever gear, even if you aren't that good at it.

in general, going an allowable speed for the gear your rev should be roughly +1000 RPms when downshifting, and drop 1000 rpms when upshifting. eg. 3rd-4th (4000-3000) , 4th-5th (5000-4000) approx.. etc, etc.

I find the best way to get smooth shifts is to rev to at least 5000 before shifting. Much easier IMO to match revs at higher RPMS, lower RPMS the throtttle is way trickier and more sensitive (possibly runs lean?) I idle at 700.. WISH i idled at 1000!!!
Also, i TRY to never downshift 3rd-2nd..you just have to rev so high in 2nd, that you're already almost out of the powerband and have to shift rite back to 3rd (which is VERY wide.. a little lacking on the bottom end)

agreed... like mentioned before... the space between 3rd and 2nd is pretty high... you'll need to really rev it much higher to downshift from 3rd to 2nd. (that's where i do alot of my engine braking)

you get the hang of how much differences in rpm from each gear are... and uhh... be aware of max speed each gear is allowed in.

you seriously don't want to downshift into 2nd when you're going like 60 mph.. (trust me.. i've seen it happen, but it was a complete accident... engine went kaput... but you get the idea)
