Default Road trip with the tC

Just got back from Cali. Drove the tC from Phoenix to San Diego to L.A. then back to Phoenix. Offcourse I stayed in San Diego for 3 days, but you know! The car was awsome. It handled the mountians so well, it was a blast, and not to metion the streets and on ramps in San Diego. I am very happy with the performance of the car, I cant wait to slap on the TRD springs. Oh ya, I filled up like 3 times over that whole trip. It got right around 375-400 miles to a tank, Should get 400 to tank, if you drive it to empty, but I dont like the middle of the desert that much

Are you kidding me? I drive the thing until it starts sputtering and get 320 if I'm lucky.

WOW, only 320. are you sure? Because seriously, I filled it completely up, like over full. Then I got in and reset my Odometer to 0. I made it from my house in east Mesa, drove around town a little before we left - bank, and food, you know - to about 45 miles out side of San Diego before I needed a refill. And the Odometer was reading 379, but I still had about an 1/8 left on the gauge. I will set it again when I fill up next time.

Oh ya, I was only using 87 octane the entire time. That is all that I have been using.

I know you dont mean fully empty. So about how many gallons did you fill it up with? About 13? I will just go off that for some simple math. 400/13=30mpg. I can belive that. I dont think it would be to hard. I average 28mpg in my current car & its highway EPA mpg is 29. I have been able to get a average of 33 before so I could see the tC getting these same numbers.

Should range ~334 to ~435 for a tank with auto and ~319 to ~421 with manual

I meant Kamikazi. I haven't heard of anybody going 400 miles on a single fill-up in a manual.

I'm getting horrible mpg on the freeways... keeping with traffic, I do about 80 but my rpm's are so damn high compaired to my other cars. Fifth gear at 80mph, my tach is up at about 3700rpm! The more freeway driving I do, the worse my mpg are. I fill up at about a quarter tank which gets me 210-230 miles!

my last fill-up took 12 gallons which got me about 220 miles... all 200+ miles were very mild miles, but mostly freeway

Im sorry people but that right there is one reason I dont want to get a tC. I could not stand getting your 18.3mpg in a 4 cylinder car. Now if it was Turbocharged I could see that kind of milage. Its just not right for a 4 cylinder to consume more gas then a V6 or even some V8s for that matter.

I just completed about a 3,800 mile road trip in my tC with 5spd transmisison and averaged just under 27 miles per gallon. If you are really getting under 20 miles per gallon doing mostly freeway driving then I think you should have you car checked out, it should do much better than that.

There's your problem.

And where the hell does everybody drive 80? You live in Montana or something?

I drive a manual tC in Pittsburgh, where there are a lot of hills. There should be a correlation between having a lot hills to less mpg, right? Having to constantly stop and start on hills must be wasting my gas, because I don't get very good mileage.... maybe around 260ish. can anyone confirm?

I came from Dublin, CA, to Anaheim, CA, a couple of weeks ago, didn't make any stops in between, (about 390 miles), filled up the next day, after work, and still had 3 gallons. :D Yeah, mine's manual!

Normaly the more hills the worse the milage. Also the higher you are above sea level, will affect your milage a little.
