Default The Scion tC Diet Plan

**I started this thread a few days ago to post up about saved weight from the rear of the tC, and I have decided to make it a rather on going thread that I will keep track of total weight savings.** <---- edit

A) I got bored today and decided to strip out the back of my tC. Everything from the rear inner panels back.

**NOTE**
All weights were done on a home scale and are as close as I could possibly get them.

Here it is.
1. the rear seat cushion/bench = 9 1/2 lbs.
2. the small rear seat back = 16 1/2 lbs.
3. the big rear seat back = 28 1/2 lbs.
4. spare tire = 27 lbs.
5. tools = 8 3/4 lbs.
6. rear cloth trunk matt = 5 1/2 lbs
and for all that I saved a total of 95 and 1/2 lbs.
**NOTE**
YES, its louder in my car and I will have to buy a better set of components now.
YES, I did this in the winter and am now thinking I am retarded..... but
--I left only the carpet and my front seats/consoles etc.

B) Light weight pulley
Stock pulley = 3.65lbs
Brothers Racing Light Weight Crank Pulley = .82lbs or 13.1 ounces
for a savings of 2.83lbs

C) Springs
Stock = 16lbs
Tein S-Techs = 16lbs
null savings

D) Exhaust
Stock = 25lbs {as best as I could measure}
Greddy Ti-C = 11.5lbs
for a savings of 13.5lbs

{total weight savings as of 12/20/2007 = 111.83}

##Coming soon##
Fujita vs. stock air box
{still waiting on email from fujita customer care}

no...not even close...

the saying goes that for every 100 pounds you shave off your cars is a tenth of a second off your 1/4 mile time.

your not adding any horsepower, your improving your power to weight ratio.

as for handling goes, your have removed weight from over the back tires, meaning that you have actually unbalanced the car even more than it already was being a front wheel drive car. so the performance benifits in doing all that aren't significant.

i agree with drax, the only way to make it beneficial would be to add a stylish yet functional wing so that at higher speeds you have the weight advantage caused by downforce and no weight when you are taking off due to no wind resistance and no junk in the trunk.

you know... I am going to say this once.. I appreciat all the feed back but seriously

past cars {ALL Gutted}

02 Civic Si {Ep} = built all motor {factor winglet}
01 Civic Coupe = bolt ons and body mods {no wing}
93 Civic Cx {Eg} = fully built b-20/18 head and gutted carbon fiber body {spoon spoiler}
96 Civic Dx {Ek} = fully built b18 - rev hard turbo {honda type-r wing)
95 Civic Ex {Ej} = built all motor b-16 {no wing}
91 CRX Si {Ef} = built all motor b-18
+ 1 accord, 1 maxima and 1 mailbu

ALL of the cars I have built in the past have been able to run upwards of 160mph and I have never... ever... needed a wing, nor used one. the speeds that we are traveling at will not trully require a wing. now.. around 160, yes.. it does get a little ...... lite... but.. with the factory ecu on a tC stopping us at 127.. I dont really see the need for the cost of a functional wing. And yes I did remove weight from the rear.. obviously, however it is now clean enough for me to start moving things around to get the car as close to a 50/50 weight distrubution as possible.

That being said, I appreciate all the feedback.

As a side note I should mention that soon to follow the rear end gutting will be the front. Including and not limited to

Removal of the A/C
Removal of the windshield washer system
Lighter Koyo Radiator {when applicable}
Carbon Fiber Hood
Carbon Fiber Fenders
Seats = Either carbon kevlar buckets or street seats {not sure)
On the rear
Carbon fiber Hatch and Handle

Lighter wheels will also be on the menu, but I am fine with the stockers for now

Things that I will be adding consist of
Front and rear sways
Rear 4 point strut bar
Center beam lower cross bar
C-pillar bar

Thats cool nice of you to do this. Keep updating. I myself gutted the trunk the second day i had my car, dint see a need for a spare tire (knocks on wood).

Eh, losing functionality and appearance for that minute of a gain isn't worth it in my opinion. Just slap a turbo on and call it a day, you won't even feel that 200lbs+ of seats, spare and such.

My tc with a 1/4 tank of gas and no spare, tools, and jack weighed 3014 with me in it at the track.

As much as i love your default picture all4degame, i gotta disagree with you.you actually do feel 200 extra lb's. Atleast i did when i gutted my integ. If only we weighed like 10 lb right MAtt? then our cars would be way lighterr. By the way hows your pulley?

I did the same thing about a year ago, while wiring up my speakers. I wanted to just get a feel for how the car felt without the back seats, all the truck stuff, center console, etc...It wasn't much different but it did feel a bit more alive.

Agreed to an extent. If you're going to remove interior stuff, you better gut it completely. I'm talking no seats, no carpets, no panels, no speakers...nothing but sheet metal .

losing weight definitely has it's benefits. I remember SCC mag stripped out a 350Z, acceleration was better, but handling was worst (if you really care about that)
But I like your plan!
