Default Scion tC Key (Making Progress)

Didn't know where this would belong so I figure I'd put it in the main section. Any mods can feel free to move this.

Just wondering, is there any way to get a blank switchblade key like the ones Audis and Mazdas have?

Here are some pictures if you don't know what I'm talking about:
http://www.bookofjoe.com/images/2223344_1.jpg
http://www.thaimazda3.com/forum/uplo...0691_thumb.jpg

I really like the "switchblade" design and in my opinion the tC key is pretty bulky and ugly. I have a Zenesis alarm with remote start installed on my tC so I only need a carved out key to start the car (I think?). I've searched around on the forum and found a few threads relating to the same topic but wasn't able to find a definite answer. Can someone shed some light on this? And just curious if anyone knows how much it would cost to carve out a blank key?

Theres a toyota switchblade key out there too. Since you have the Zenesis you don't need the immobilizer chip inside it. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to get one done up at any random shop that copies keys...

I've seen the Toyota version, it's kind of ugly too. I don't know why they don't have better designs. Anyways, where can I find these switchblade key fobs? Will other brands work too or am I limited to ones made especially for Toyota?

If you only need a key and not the pad, why not use the valet one you got when you bought the car?

I gave that to the installer for the bypass, by accident. Should've used one of the two with the remote on it. Either way, I think the shape is kind of ugly. The switchblade keys look much nicer.

On a broader note, these key fobs are to drool over:

Does anyone know how to replace the tC keys?

I was thinking about this too. I'll look around because I'm interested in getting away from the original Scion key. I have two with the buttons and the valet key (w/o security buttons). When I had my 300Z, NISMO had a sexy chrome key and a carbon fiber key... I haven't seen anything like that from Scion or TRD.

I'll trade you. Honestly, my switchblade f.o.b. is too big. It looks like I have two phones in my pocket.

It's just a gimmick that will cost more to fix. I'd just stick with the Scion f.o.b.

i know you can buy un-cut vw key fobs on ebay.. same thing as the audi one pretty much

now vw/audi key's are cut different than scion keys, do you think that'll make a difference?

oh and my gf's jag key fob is pretty legit.. i want one haha

You can buy a push button start, but it will have no protection with it. So anyone can push it and it will start up.

I've been looking for some third-party manufacturers. Not a lot of options, but I did find a few:

http://key-port.com
This isn't really what I want, but it's more of an alternative, but I think it looks a little scary to be carrying it around as keys.

http://www.sharkracing.com/acecart/b...cate=011600000
This is a much better choice, but I'm not sure if they'll make any for tC's. The woodgrain version looks really great. I'll send them an e-mail and ask. Just out of curiosity, would anyone be interested in a groupbuy for something like this? I'm thinking it would be a lot easier to convince them if there are a lot of people asking for the same product. Perhaps we can get them to keep manufacturing these keys for future Scion owners too

I'd be up for it if SR does make Scion ones, or if they will...

That's great to hear. I've already e-mailed SR about the possibility of them making a Scion version. I'll post here their response once I receive it.

Meanwhile, I've found another alternative:
http://aplumdeal.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=2109079
Instead of a switchblade/flip key fob, this one retracts in and springs out. It's make for motorcycles, but I wonder if it's possible to use their key blanks for a tC. I've e-mailed as well and will let you guys know when I receive a response.
Edit: I've received a response from the aplumdeal.ecrater.com:
Dear LiRen,

We will ask the manufacturer if they have key blanks that fit the 2006 Scion tC. If so, we will let you know so that you can get it. Have a good day!

Regards,
PlumBargains
