I'm with you! I want the switchblade key and I've been looking all over the internet. Hopefully shark racing will do the group buy.

I just received a reply from SharkRacing.

Hello,

The keys that we sell are made for the Hyundai cars. I would have to see the actual key or key blank in order to see if one of our keys are compatible. If not, your only choice would be to buy any kit from us, and modify one of your blank keys so that it fits into the switchblade housing. You would need to cut off the black plastic at the top of the key, and then modify the remaining actual key part so that it fits into the housing.

Does anyone know specifications on a Hyundai key blank and a Scion key blank? If the Hyundai key blank is bigger than the Scion key blank, can't we just have it carved into the same size? Or is that not how it works?

I sent SharkRacing some pictures of my key but they were too blurry. But they did give me a huge response regardless, here it is:
Hello,

I saw the pics that you sent, and I need clearer pics. The pics that you sent are too blurry, so I can't see the grooves. I need to see how wide the grooves are. The overall length of car keys are usually pretty similar, so that's not really important.

Regarding a group buy, it is possible, but to make a new key means we have to produce at least 1000 units. If we were to be guaranteed, say 200 units, I would be willing to produce the new key, and keep the remaining ones in stock, so we can sell them slowly, perhaps as a vendor on your site. Let me know if this is something that would interest you.

Or, you do have another option. The deluxe key that we sell is a much higher quality key, and the price is reflective of that.

http://www.sharkracing.com/acecart/b...cate=011600000

The original switchblade that you are interested in is made of plastic, while the deluxe is a metal-based key, for a much more solid feel and better longevity. Depending on what the Scion factory alarm key fob looks like, we may also be able to incorporate the factory alarm system into the switchblade, like we do for the Korean car models that we sell.

Let me know what the forum members think about these two products. If you opt to go with the basic key, with a minimum of 200 units, or 100 pairs of switchblade keys, we can offer you a price of US$50 per pair. We'd like to offer a lower price, but with the stock that we'd have to carry, that's not going to be easy. We can see what price level we can offer, if there is overwhelming demand.

Also, if you can just send us a blank, perhaps we can get lucky, as it may be possible to just use an existing blank made for a Korean car. We'd have to compare them face to face just to make sure.

Finally, if there is anything else that you guys need or need to get made, let me know. As you can see from our site, we offer a lot of unique products, geared towards the types of cars that aren't as popular as Hondas, so we do have the ability to get things made in smaller quantities, compared to other companies. Most of our products are made in Korea, so you can be sure that the quality is much higher than made-in-China products.

So basically even if the Hyundai key blanks can't be worked into Scion keys, we still have one options. That is to round up a good amount of buyers.

If you need better pictures of the key to send them.. I can take some today. Let me know. I like the DELUXE key that SR sells and if they can add Scion's security system to the fob that's perfect. I would be on the list to get one ASAP.

I'm in for a group buy assuming we can get them programmed to work with the FOB... I don't want to lose that functionality.

^ This depends on whether or not SR can get the key fob specifications from Toyota. Not to mention these keys would have to have an immobilizer.

it would be interesting to fabricate one where the buttons and the engine immobilizer system would still function... but that's a little more work than is realistically fathomable right now

Well..as far as getting the buttons and immobilizer to work..if you look at the instructions it looks like the immobilizer has a special spot in the key. So no worries there except pulling it out of the old key.

The buttons..i would have to look at the instructions again and I am too lazy.

I think the buttons just have to have the right frequency to work and be programmed, but I could be wrong...

You're right on the immobilizer...

Interesting, I'd be down for this. Let me know if you need hi-res pics taken of the key.

edit: not really interested in the basic one though. Deluxe one would be nice assuming that we can integrate our remote from the stock key.
